Around the world, people are living longer — not just because child mortality is dropping, but also because we’re staying healthy for more years as we age. In the future, regenerative medicine and other new developments may help most people remain youthful much longer than they do today. In this talk, Aubrey de Grey, Chief Science Officer at the SENS Research Foundation, discusses the biology and sociology of what could be a massive shift in the way we live.

It is remarkable that the effective altruism movement doesn't latch on to the goals of SENS Research Foundation much more readily than it does. SENS is a perfectly cut out for effective altruists. The amount of bang for your buck at the early stages is much higher than it would be at the later stages, and there's good reason to believe it will have an impact as we've seen hints of this in the private sector.

At the beginning, when he was talking about importance, I thought he would have said that aging currently causes more than 2/3 of all human deaths. In other talks, he usually includes this fact. Weird that he didn't mention it here since it was super relevant.

So huge amounts of money and resources are pouring into the anti-aging community, and why isn't at least some of this money is going into SENS? Even a fraction of it would make a huge difference!

I still need to be convinced that working against aging is more important than working against factory farming.
