In April of 2019, I spent ten incredible days exploring the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou in China. It was my second trip to China in four years – I had first traveled to the country in 2015 with my dad. During that trip, I explored Shanghai, Beijing, and Xi’an. I couldn’t wait to explore more of Shanghai and check out Suzhou and Hangzhou for the very first time!

We are already going 135 km, then shows the train going 93km.

I'm not gonna lie, every time he says "yen" instead of "yuan" I die a little on the inside.

Hey David... So cool to see you in Shanghai. I live here, but I am originally from Assam and watched all your blogs from back home and Meghalaya. You are doing a great job. All the very best.

Yo I know I‘m late, but this technologly is called „Transrapid“ and it was invented in Germany in 1980. But because of high costs and an accident with a service wagon the project was abandonned. 2 years before the crash, China has bought the Transrapid technology for Shanghai for exactly that route you‘ve been riding in the video.
So yes the technoglogy is 20 years older than you thought. So almost 40 years old, now.

- greetings from Germany :, )

I am sorry for the late comment but just so you know if you guys do have a flight ticket, and if you show the flight ticket to the cashier then you will automatically get a 10 RMB discount, which means you will only need to pay 40 RMB rather than 50 RMB for an economy ticket. For the speed, Shanghai Maglev, each day, has hours that operates at a speed of around 320km/h, and hours that operates at a speed of around 420km/h. You can see the operating hours at the train station - you can literally see when the train will be operated at 320km/h or 420km/h.

I rode this a few times. It is smooth BUT it moves quite a bit left to right and can be quite shaky and more exciting than it should be. It is also close to the ground so when it gets up to speed it can make a nervous person even more nervous. Needs a lot of work!

we went on a china tour, and all the blokes were a bit fed up, because we were templed out (too many temple visits ) so we asked the tour guide when we were in shanghai, can we go on the maglev, she said we must stick to itinery , we all said, no, we all want maglev, we went on the maglev to the airport and came straight back on the train, the following year the tour itinery had been altered to take an optional maglev trip, It was brilliant

Such a nice video, David! May I ask what camera you're using? I really like the look. And the first lens was nice, too.

You don’t even warm your seat and you get off. It’s beautiful.

It is really a pity in recent news that now this Maglev is limited to 300kph, but like it's been there for 20 years without replacing tracks for more than 100 trains running across it at 431kph every day. A few years ago it was changed to 300kph normally and 431 on a few time zones, but it's just too old and needs renewing...

I think it's 50 RMB if you show your airplane ticket.
Also you can take a 30 minutes subway ride from the maglev train station to Peoples Square for 4 RMB.

That is actually not the only Maglev in China, there's another one in Changsha City and serves as a express from the airport to main CRH station.
