How to make Amazing Easter Egg art!

It's that time of year for Easter Eggs and we have a great twist for dying eggs that is sure to please your friends and family... just don't be hiding these around the house! Why limit yourself to dying just the egg shells this Easter? Make a variation of Chinese tea eggs with a easy and simple method.

If you don't want to use dye (and eat those chemicals) you can cook the eggs with red onion peel wrapped around them, secured with rubber bands. It gives a beautiful red-brownish colour.

I use to tye them like that (i don't wait two hours, not necesary) not only on easter time, i use them for a colofull breakfast or for decorating some food. They look nice if you slice them. Also you can crack them and dye, peel them and dip in another color to combine ( black first and then red and it looks like spiderman colors). There is a tip for easy peeling....get sure is cold, scub it in your hand like if you were making a meatball....and all the shell come of like "a coat"

I think I did something wrong to crack the eggs, I threw them at the wall to see if the design would come out and it made a mess all over the place... I think I was too impatient with all the waiting. :)

I saw a cook do them once on TV. They are called 100 year eggs and the Chinese use Duck eggs. Hard cook the chicken eggs and tap to star pattern the shells. Steep Black tea (1.5 Tbs) in boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain tea leaves. Place tea in a non-reactive saucepan. Stir in Dark soy sauce (2 Tbs), salt (2tsp), and one Star anise into tea. Place eggs in saucepan with tea mixture. Simmer for one hour. Do not allow the liquid to come to a boil. Allow eggs to cool completely then peel. So much better than than food coloring as it adds a very nice flavor. OH, do not shell them until your ready to eat them and store in the fridge. Only thing is the differently colored ones shown here are nicer to look at. These will be brownish. Still cool though.
