Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith speaks to reporters after Steelers training camp practice Monday in Latrobe. He offers his thoughts on Cordarrelle Patterson working his way back into action after injury; QB Justin Fields' efforts in the preseason loss the Houston Texans, including snap issues with C Nate Herbig; the No. 2 receiver battle between Van Jefferson, Scotty Miller, Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson; the growth of rookie offensive linemen Troy Fautanu, Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick in their first in-stadium outings Friday; and Russell Wilson's availability after his own injury.

Immediately saw the difference in quality when Martin was put in to replace Herbig. Those two missed snaps were Herbig's fault, not Fields.

You can see the difference in media reaction and coach reaction. Justin Fields played well. Watching it, that's what i thought. C-QB exchange problems suck, but if you're telling me the worst thing about my offense is the snap, then I'd be confident that i could clean that up. I wouldn't say it's not a big deal, but it's also kind of fluky and easy to fix.

Why would you ever put out a backup guard with your starting qb. That was a losing football move if you don’t like the fumbles don’t do shit like that

Man its so refreshing having a competent offensive coordinator compared to that BOZO we had before who couldnt scheme a door open.

The Steelers should do well this year. Mike Tomlin is a top 5 head coach in the history of the NFL, and he has some coaching help this year. We're so lucky to have him as our HC. Gooo Steelers!

I hope Arthur is aware that he will be the scapegoat when this team fails again.

If smith is a better coach than Tomlin. Why did he get fired

Move Allen up. He moves quicker in the head. He gets the ball out a lot faster. Smarter player.

Herbig is the fall guy for Justin. Herbig has played with multiple QBs and never had problems bad snaps; Justin has.

Mike Tomlin owes his entire head coach career in Pittsburgh to Big Ben and Bill Cowher's team. Tomlin is a good defensive coach. That's it. Fields is an absolute bum. I really hope Russ can pull something out of his butt. He's out of his prime no doubt, but he's a proven winner in the past. We need another WR. It took 3 years too long to drop Diontae Johnson. This will definitely be Tomlin's losing season. Steelers look worse this year than any year I can remember. I've been watching Steelers for 25 years
