I haven't seen a CaptainSparklez video in at least 7 years. Seeing him pop up in my recommendations all this time later covering a topic I would've never though he'd cover feels odd but comforting.

One of the Mr Beast cast members forged “MB” on a t-shirt as if it were muscle memory. This cast member and others around him noticed and reacted by trying to slyly hide it from stream. I think that’s a pretty good example of what these guys are trying to achieve.

As someone who is newly verified on YouTube and streams frequently, I had brand deals that recommended this type of lottery system. I rejected because I was always sketched out by the logistics. Trust your gut if you make content. Research before accepting brand deals

But also what makes Mrbeast's illegal lottery even worse is the fact that he says "a person that buys merch in the next 5 minutes gets x prize" Then completely forgets about it and changes it to "the next person in 30 seconds" He's now made people buy merch if not multiple pieces of merch and then they're no longer eligible for a prize because it's only the shirts that are now bought in the "30 seconds" window. So he just scammed a bunch of people out of money. What's then even worse is if they don't even receive the item they were supposed to win.

He also manipulates the audience by pretending that they're losing a bunch of money.

The scummy part of the t-shirt lottery is that he kept repeating that they weren't making money because they were giving away so much money, when in reality they made 20x more than what they gave away. And they did it to boost sales, so it might not be duplicate purchases, and just regular greed they were looking for.

The Mr. Beast lottery was *absolutely* meant to entice people to buy if they weren't going to, and also to buy more. You just have to look at the comments, or complaints about people who missed out on freebies. It was aimed at an audience of children, and they used the gifts as a pressure tactic. It was gross.

I remember MatPat making a food theory on Feastables chocolate when the golden ticket thing was happening, talking about illegal lotteries and different methods to enter, like writing a letter or something.

At the end of the video he says that he saves MrBeast from a lot of controversy...

I've noticed that a number of car YouTubers will link giveaways to their merchandise. "For every five dollars you spend that you spend on our merch, you'll get one entry to win this expensive car." None of them seem to mention any free entry options.

For UK Laws—Yes, there are quite a few exceptions to lottery laws when it comes to non-commercial lotteries such as Charity raffles, but Omaze isn't considered a lottery as you can get a free entry by sending an entry to a PO box, which requires a postage stamp, which is more than an Omaze entry costs online.

But he also moved the goal post. If you enter "in the next 5 minutes" and then he changes something you might've acted differently. It's why you need clearly defined windows and prizes. Equal consideration.

i love this man so much, for one all of our childhood minecraft youtubers and other youtubers have come out as weird people yet this man stays true to how we saw him when we was children. it's just one of those small things that even though i don't even watch him as much anymore just gives me relief inside
