The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) latest report, Mitigation of Climate Change, provides an update on the planet's current trajectory for global warming, the failings of governments to live up to their climate promises, and the solutions that need to be rapidly implemented to drastically reduce emissions and limit future warming. This is part three of its Sixth Assessment Report.

Dr. Paulina Jaramillo joins us to discuss the report and the section of the report which she was the Coordinating Lead Author, the decarbonization of transportation.

I liked her at first, but when she said a bigger variety of electric cars on the market will help I knew we're going downhill. Here are just some reasons, and I'm a random person really:
- did you know car tires are usually the n 1 source of plastic pollution? look it up. we cannot talk only about CO2!
- car infrastructure - roads, highways.. are detrimental to nature in a number of ways
- cars, ships and planes all require heavy excavation of limited materials for their production, and they are usually extracted in horrible conditions and not paid for fairly
- she said just transition is her passion? somebody please give her a copy of Silvia Federici's "Feminism and the Commons" or anything where she can read about how the socio-economic system is designed to enslave, privatize (steal) and devour all that the "Global South" has through "structural adjustment programs". this cannot be reformed. System change, sister, not that BS please.
- i didn't hear her mention reducing consumption once?
As long as we live in a system where money is god, and even future adults are instructed to dream and strive towards jobs that are not beneficial, but profitable, we are doomed. I was looking forward to the Mitigation report, and now we get this? Really? E-cars? Seriously? I guess Jarred Diamond is right, all amazing civilizations collapse quickly after reaching peak wealth, simply bc the elites are blind & stupid. We don't need nextgen tech, we need permaculture, real democracy (power to the people), localized commerce of as many things as possible, good old quality instead of planned obsolescence, and we need to have less superficial ideas of happiness. Put that into your report and stop working for the military-industrial complex! Work for nature, for real!

I appreciate what you're doing with this. The truth is people are so self absorbed with regards to their stock portfolios and personal finance they don't realize they're waking up to a less and less habitable planet for humans that is happening right now as we speak.


I really hope instead of having another shark tank show or smart money program we get programs like this. We need everyone involved, this impacts everyone on the planet.
