The video "Liberals vs Conservatives" features renowned psychologist and author Jordan Peterson discussing the personality traits that underlie political tendencies, as well as the importance of engaging in dialogue with those who hold opposing views.

Peterson begins by exploring the fundamental differences between liberals and conservatives, noting that these differences are not simply a matter of political ideology, but are deeply rooted in personality traits such as openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness.

According to Peterson, those who lean liberal tend to score higher on measures of openness to experience, which translates into a willingness to explore new ideas, seek out novel experiences, and embrace change. Conservatives, on the other hand, tend to score higher on measures of conscientiousness, which translates into a preference for order, structure, and tradition.

Peterson emphasizes that these personality traits are not good or bad in themselves, but rather represent different ways of viewing the world that can lead to different political beliefs and values. He notes that liberals tend to value diversity, individualism, and social justice, while conservatives tend to value order, stability, and personal responsibility.

However, Peterson also acknowledges that these differences can lead to conflict and polarization, particularly in today's hyper-partisan political climate. He stresses the importance of engaging in meaningful dialogue with those who hold opposing views, and of recognizing that both liberals and conservatives have valid concerns and perspectives.

Overall, "Liberals vs Conservatives" offers a thought-provoking exploration of the underlying personality traits that shape our political beliefs, and underscores the importance of respectful and open-minded engagement with those whose views may differ from our own.

saying liberals are open minded is hilarious. they are so full of ideology, they are the opposite of open.

Synonyms for the word liberal are, free & open. Synonyms for conservative are, to keep & closed. But here's the thing... No one is 100% conservative on all issues across the board. Just as, no one is 100% liberal on all issues across the board. We all pick & choose issues where we want freedom as well as restrictions

The correct answer is genuine moderates(not people just trying not to upset anyone and call themselves moderates) but true moderates are the correct ones the people who understand the value of both sides, along with the shortcomings of both sides. Those are the people we need to be listening to and stop listening to people that are all conservative or all liberal because you cannot be a sane, rational person, and be all one way. Because reality is never all one way, and if you choose to be all one way, you will struggle with reality, and the people who occupy reality.

I think that, to find the answer, we have to come to a consensus on what we believe success is, and see which side has a higher rate of success for the longest period of time.

One of the things that makes this way of thinking a bit difficult though is that openness could mean the government being less involved, which would be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. And conscientiousness could mean the government being more involved, which would be socially conservative and fiscally liberal. So both conservatives and liberals contradict their own natures to a degree. The only one that appears to be completely syntonic with their nature would be the libertarians, who would have all openness with no conscientiousness (they are fiscally conservative and socially liberal). Not sure if there's a fourth political alignment who would have all conscientious with no openness to counter them though (they would be fiscally liberal and socially conservative)...
