Criterion releases great, innovative films, and Wall-E is an example of that. I honestly don't see what the problem is. Also, Criterion has always included more mainstream films in their catalogue.

I was overjoyed when I heard the news. First of all, WALL-E is easily the best Pixar film, and one of the best animated films in modern times period. The idea that it's somehow unworthy as a piece of art is, frankly, ridiculous. It is absolutely a worthy Criterion film. Secondly, Criterion has a history of, every now and then, releasing mainstream/popular films. They're a business, after all, and they can only afford to finance the release of niche arthouse films if they also release a few big sellers. And lastly, snobbery is lame. While I don't know how I would feel if Criterion announced that it's going to be releasing every Pixar film, I have absolutely no problem with them picking and choosing a few mainstream/popular films that also happen to be great. If you, as a film fan, reject certain films simply on the grounds that they're popular, that is lame. Real cinephiles should be perfectly able to identify greatness where ever it is found, be it in the local arthouse theater, or at the major multiplex. Bottom line: Wall-E is awesome, and I will be pre-ordering this Criterion release today.

FANTASIA would be a great damn film to have on 4K, with a new restored soundtrack in the Criterion collection!

Some people really need to get a life. I was here when Criterion announced Armageddon 🤪 As for Wall-E. It's a masterpiece of modern animation containing profound messaging, Kubrickian tributes and an opening 30 minutes that's almost unmatched. I used to run a company that was located outside the gates of the Emeryville Pixar location. I got to know many people (including Andrew Stanton) at Pixar and their passion back then was infectious. Elliot, you're spot on with your opinion and yes, I too have Criterion movies that I don't love. Jumping up to 30, 000 feet, just think if behind this Disney and Criterion have a deal to release some of their properties.... True Lies, The Abyss, the list goes on.

The people that think animation are for kids can't be real movie fans. Because animation is not just for kids an Wally is a fantastic movie

hopefully this means Disney is loosening their stranglehold on their back catalog and not pushing it streaming

The Criterion Collection has such a vast array of different types of films. I was pretty excited from this news. Just like many others I have seen on social media, Wall-E is one of (if not the best Pixar) film and for those complaining about tainting these delusions of persnickety grandeur all I have to say is The Blob is in the collection. I love that movie, but I would never shove that down someone's throat who just really likes Bergman or Goddard exclusively and that is what in the collection appeals to them. I think the collection is for everyone who loves and appreciates film.

I was taken aback at first when I heard that a “WALL-E” 4K was coming to Criterion. Not from a standpoint that it was not deserving, just from the perspective of there already being a 4K release out there. I haven’t picked it up yet so I think I’ll wait to pick this one up during the November Criterion sale. As far as them releasing popular films goes, they had DVD releases of “The Rock” and “Armageddon” in the past. They have also recently released “Princess Bride, ” “Breakfast Club, ” and “Fast Times” on blu-ray.

I was not expecting this, but let's be honest here. WALL-E is amazing and it actually very Criterion worthy then it comes to it's theme.

This video is yet another reason I appreciate you, Elliot. Gatekeepers are the worst, and I personally can't wait for this release. Now, I'm just going to sit here and cross my fingers for "Up"!

Wall-E’s easily my favourite movie out of the entire Pixar pantheon and it deserves to be in Criterion’s ever-growing list of classics

I only see this as positive news. We may have a chance to get Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Isle Of Dogs in the Criterion Collection now.

Wall-E is an important film that speaks volumes on modern society, more important today than it was when it released.
