We call it "Kartoffelsalat". :D It is very common to eat it at christmas eve before receiving the presents because it is easy to prepare (the real feast is on the 25th december). We ate it too when I was a little child and not patience enough to wait for presents. When I was getting older we began to eat "Raclette" (but the german version) because I was patient enough. ;)
Germany is not only divided into "Aldi Nord" (north) and "Aldi Süd" (south) but also in two different kinds of "Kartoffelsalat". Here in the north we eat it with mayonnaise. But those weirdos ;) in the south eat it with broth and mustard - no mayonnaise!
I always buy polish majonez for "Kartoffelsalat" because it tastes better than german mayonnaise.
Replace the potatoes with noodles and you have a "Nudelsalat" - something you can find at nearly every german barbeque. :D

Had this for New Year's -- since it's such a heavy dish and even if you use 1 of every ingredient you make a lot, we eat it once a year only. And what a treat it was! Happy new year, comrade!

Pretty similar but much better 😁 here in Croatia there is no meats just peas, potatoes, carrots, pickles, boiled eggs, apples, mayo and mustard.
