Just as clarification, Ororon is NOT based on Yoruba (Olorun — Ororon). His name is derived from the Māori word “Ororongo, ” which means “Audio/Sound.” Since he’s supposed to be a bat, the name and association checks out.
Bats in Māori Mythos are revered as Pekapeka, the physical incarnation of the Hokioi, a mythical night-flying bird that foretells death and disaster. This justifies his dark and edgier design.

People are upset because ororon is based on the god: Olorun from the Yoruba. Olorun being an African diety (emphasis on African) is being portrayed poorly here by genshin as a bright emo.
Also people are upset because his design looks like he was made in gacha life by a 12 year old.

I've never seen any community being as miserable as gacha community. It's not just genshin, literally every gacha game I've seen is as miserable as this, idk why they just find something to hate on constantly. That's why I mostly stay away from these communities and pull for whoever i find cool. Personally I wish ororon clothes are abit different, not that I hate it but his pants feel cheap. I'll still get him though, he character was great in archon quest.

The only problem is the background, genshin used a lighter color of purple than usualthe design is good already tho so that's fine
