Los Angeles is sinking! Hurricane Hilary hits California, the US
Tropical Storm Hilary hit the state of California in the United States at night. The storm then moved north to Nevada.Strong winds reached 100 kph (62mph) at landfall. Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in Southern California.
More than a hundred cars were damaged or swam away. Major interstate highways were closed due to rockfalls and mudslides. The storm led to evacuations in several counties. More than a thousand buildings and basements were flooded. More than a dozen neighborhoods were left without electricity.
Hilary was the first tropical storm to hit Southern California in 84 years.
