A 'Normal' Bike Ride?

I needed to head out on my bicycle to run some errands before the rain came and the temperature dropped. I took my gravel bike, Raleigh Tamland 2, and hit some bike paths, industrial gravel and roads on my way to Earthquaker Devices and Dirty River Bicycle Works. Join me for a lil vlog as I go about my day.

I have definitely learned not to hesitate on a ride. If the weather is good "GET OUT" because in the Midwest, it can change fast!

A definite added benefit to riding wider tires is that brick roadways are smoothed out compared to roadies’ pizza cutter tires.

One thing I normally carry on every ride is my MSR pocket rocket stove because I always like the option to pull over and make a coffee or hot tea. On longer rides, I carry my Eagle Nest Outfitters hammock. It packs down to the size of a softball, and I like to pull over and hang out for a bit, preferably in the shade. I like a basket on my bikes so I have easy access to my jacket and camera. I also keep my large air horn and bear spray for aggressive dogs, which we have a plethora in our area. Not to mention real bears and mountain lions. Usually, I just explore every road and track I can find or fill in areas of the map on my GPS.

Nice eclectic route. Having a "goto" casual route to ride like this is another dreary weather motivation factor. Dress right, no planning, just riding.

GREAT video as always. 😊 It most definitely feels like a long summer for me. There’s a bike ride that happens once every year thru a park that is lit up with holiday lights. This is the first time I did it just shorts and summer socks. 🎄✨⛄️

I’m an old road bike guy who flinches every time you take off into the grass; then I remember that I ride tubeless 47mm semi-slick tires, and I do that all the time now too. Old dogs, old habits.😉
