Hello Geneia. Here is my secret. I go to Hotel Outlet stores/warehouses. I buy many framed canvas art work. The size of canvas in this video cost me $5-$10 depending on the condition. Even very large art cost about $15.00. I bought more than 30 canvases. I'm a bit of a designer. So, I may make an art piece for the space I'm doing.

I’ve watched about 10 videos on textured diy and yours was the clearest and the prettiest one I’ve seen (my taste) looks sooo good I have confidence now about doing mine after watching yours! Thank you!!

I saw so many giant canvases with frames at the thrift store for like 7$ I’m so trying this!

It's beautiful!

I'm in the process of making one.

Instead of spending anywhere from 15 for a canvas that I'd have to paint over up to 100-500 for an actual piece someone else did, I made my own.

I measured how big I wanted it (34" tall x 66" long) to go above my fireplace.

I went to Home Depot and bought regular construction wood. I got 2x2x but some people do 1x2s which also works and will make the canvas thinner. I built my frame just a basic frame with a support piece in the middle. I didn't even feel like doing 45degree cutes so I did it the lazy girl way and put some pocket holes in the long pieces and screwed into the small pieces. I figured since no one will see the actual way I made the frame, it doesn't have to be those perfect 45 degree cuts like you see on visible frames. Idk if I'm making sense.

I then went to Walmart and bought one of their big painters drop cloth. It's something like 9ftx14ft or something big like that... for $12.

It's not the best quality canvas but who inspects the quality of canvas at someone else's home?

I just laid down the canvas, laid the frame down and cut out the canvas leaving a few inches of extra room to wrap around the back to secure it.
Used my staple gun to secure it and done!

Making the frame cost $20-25 with extra canvas AND wood for further projects.

To make the canvas white, you just simply need to put a few layers of gesso on it (you can get that at any craft store, Walmart and I think Home Depot/Lowe's has it but not sure) but I like the natural roughness and color of the canvas so I left it as is. Now I'm just about to start the spackle! I found a HUGE one gallon tub of spackle from Lowe's for I think $16-19 and that will last for many more since I plan to make a few of these.

I'm making a floating frame as well (the same kind of frame that was in this video) and is SO easy y'all wouldn't believe and also will be less than $15 or free if I end up using what I have.

It's so fun and all in all will cost me 10% of what it would have cost to buy one done at the size I wanted. And it's 1 of 1 just like your piece!!

I use that compound for my construction projects. Thank you for showing me a new application/creation for it. I’m glad I found your tutorial. Wishing you all the best in life.

Hello Geneia I want to thank you for the inspiration. I am not a DIYER, but I am going to take your advice about buying artwork from Ross to create a smaller piece of artwork. I need a very large canvas (48 x 60) for living room. I think I am going to use painters tape to create a border paint it and also paint the sides with black acrylic paint. Thanks again for getting me to think out of the box.
