Woman claims to be Cherrie Mahan, girl last seen in Butler County 39 years ago

State police are investigating a report of a person claiming to be Cherrie Mahan, the 8-year-old girl who went missing from a bus stop in Butler County in 1985. KDKA-TV's Meghan Schiller has more.

Can you imagine how the family feels? Not knowing for 39 years where your child is? I pray she is the girl but doing nothing about it and knowing is hard to understand. I would rather know my daughter is gone than to never know. ❤

So why didn't she call the cops or something? She shares this in a Facebook group? They can process DNA fast, now, so it should be fairly simple to determine if she's deluded, or, if it's true. To first make this sort of claim in a Facebook group is just very weird - I'm inclined to think the woman is a crank of some variety. Who knows? I'd be pretty surprised if she's actually this Cherrie Mahan. I've been surprised before but this smells very funny.
