PASSION HARVEST ON SOCIAL

CONNECT WITH DR. JEFFERY D. LONG

BOOKS:
Hinduism in America: A Convergence of Worlds and Perspectives on Reincarnation:

Hindu, Christian, and Scientific

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES:

“How I Came to Vedanta”
Part of the Q&A after one of my talks at the Vedanta Society of New York (the first Vedanta Society, founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1894). This covers some of the same material that you and I discussed, especially about my father.

“Sri Ramakrishna’s Ideas and Our Times”
A talk that I gave in India that focuses on the theme of Religious Pluralism, which we discussed.

“Hinduism in America: A Convergence of Worlds”
My interview with Raj Balkaran for a podcast for the New Books Network, about my latest book (on Hinduism in America).

“The Yoga of Yoda”
My first VSNY talk, on Vedantic themes in the Star Wars films, a favorite topic of mine.

“Jainism and Vedanta: A Comparative Study”
Another VSNY talk, comparing these two ancient Indic philosophies. One of my books is an introduction to Jainism. I don’t think we talked about it much, but it’s known for its strong emphasis on ahimsa (nonviolence in thought, word, and deed).

“Humanity Is One Family”
A VSNY talk on the influence of Vedanta on the thought of Mahatma Gandhi.

“Misunderstanding Hindu Dharma”
A web talk that I gave on common misunderstandings of Hinduism in the Western world.

I have had that experience with books. They are placed in a location and the title calls out.
Developing a reliable intuition is in our future.

Luisa, again thanks for a compelling program. In my life, I’ve arrived at my mindset through self-contemplation and prayer. I’ve grown to look at “formal religion” with scrutiny because of the inherent hierarchy that is fraught with judgement. Instead, I prefer a spiritual view of the world, which I find to be decidedly different than “religion”.
Through all of this contemplation, I ultimately feel that LOVE is the most powerful force. Love of one’s self, love of nature and love of our fellow humans is a mindset which brings joy. Thanks for continuing to share your wonderful guests!
Peace, Luisa❤️

Why the universe and we exist?
Take the analogy of producing/creating a movie. Just to take us through the roller coaster of emotional experience, which we don't usually experience every day. Such as a thrilling chase, heroic action sequences, goosebumpy scene s etc. We know that they aren't real, the actors know yet it is one of the popular industry in the world.
The good, the bad and other shades of characters exists just to make it more interesting for the experiencer.

The audience know that movie is an illusionary, yet they go through the emotions as if they are real until the end of the movie. So is the physical world and life .

Scripture says there is only one strait path. Multiple paths is the teaching of polytheism and is the polar opposite of monotheism.
