BMW's logo does kinda look like a propeller. But unless the designer secretly planned it that way, it technically isnt......

You didn’t explain that the logo is actually just derived from the Bavarian flag.

I'm glad this myth was busted already. Even BMW said it numerous times, that's logo resemblesbthe Bavarian flag.

Can confirm - went to the BMW museum in Munich last year and they said as much. It's just the Bavarian flag.

Never ask:

A woman her age
A man his salary
BMW what their logo from 1933-1945

You ask this man if he goes on the Internet, he replies with; "eyebrows"

I never really understood the concept until I just bought a 2008 F800GS, and I love it! Now I get it.

My first bike and one that I recently bought and restored; it’s a perfect bike to use for back country roads and off road trips. My 98 F650 Funduro. Back when BMWs didn’t look like toys and everything is serviceable by a home mechanic. One day I hope to be riding it all over the world.

I choose to continue believing it is a propeller bc it’s cool

Whatever! When going down the motorway, on the boxer, you have the sensation of flying a piston powered aircraft, not least by virtue of the solid drone sound of the boxer.

99% of people probably did not know that people thought it looks like an airplane propeller...

I've never heard the airplane propeller thing.

I spent my teenage years knowing my first (new) motorcycle had to be a Beemer (wanted an R100RS). When I was financially able to buy my bike, the dealer convinced me to buy the new K100RS, as it was "the future of BMW" (and the boxers were being discontinued). The "brick" was a very nice bike but I wish I'd bought the R instead.

As the newer boxers have gotten increasingly complex, I'm no longer the fanboy I was growing up. I still like them, but I no longer think of them as the B(est) M(otorcycle in the) W(orld).

Not saying that the logo symbolizes this, but it is the marking used to signify center-of-gravity on drawings.

Good to know. I always thought it was a propeller.

You could make a video about what everything sounds like when it goes wrong on a motorbike like a bearing that's bad or if you'll pump things like that and also what scary sounds are normal.

So it’s an airplane propeller. Time to teach the kids

Favorite brand? I have owned and/or ridden HDs, BMWs, Honda, Yamaha. Then I bought a Triumph, and then more Triumphs, Now I know they will only be Triumphs (although it's hard to know what their logo symbolizes...). I think people buy BMWs just to be seen on one, to be known that they can buy one, etc.
