A big problem many people have today, is that they dont save, they dont invest, they dont put their needs first, they dont budget....they spend their fun money foolishly, and then wonder why they are always broke, they are always stressed and never have enough to take care of something unexpected.
They take the phrase "Im here for a good time not a long time" to an extreme, and it costs them in the end.

I will admit I used to be like this as well. But I have begun to try and change, since I started watching videos like yours.
I want to thank you so much for imparting a message that as it turns out, cannot be repeated often enough: YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU...THE RIGHT WAY! ⭐️

I wish I had this advice 40 years ago. Approaching retirement age and really trying to pull everything together. Way less saved than I feel comfortable with. I’ll keep making $$$ until I’m 67.5 which is another 5 years. Hopefully SS is still solvent.

Hey Eric. I watched the video because personal finance is one of my favorite topics to study, in all of life- just one of many 😆 but it's certainly in my top 3. And in viewing your video; I just have a few things to share.

I was glad to hear you mention to put money into a 401k/403b 🗣 especially *company matching* or something, even for those working at Wendy's or McD's 🙌🏽, but what if they don't have this option? And also giving the tip about transferring the money when they leave the company- HUGE kudos! I never knew what to do about that money but with my offspring; they have received checks- sometime after leaving a job, with a huge sack (penalty)/ money deducted since they didn't transfer it. 😌 But until the next job comes along- what should one do?

The 2nd point- know what's coming out of your paycheck. I think that's important but I don't see how people can control what comes out especially in the way of federal mandates i.e. FICA & Soc Sec and/ or state taxes. The withholding- to an extent but other than that- I am unsure about what else could be taken out other than what's really justifiable to have taken out. I advise my offspring to have the proper exemption for withholding only but everything else for their paychecks have been pretty straight-forward. Of course, the wrong withholding can have too much taken out or too little. I think some of the younger generation may not understand that.

The 3rd point that you made was to give each dollar an assignment/ task- very good. But these days, a lot of people use apps. I have 3 Millennials in their 20s. And basically- while I've always told them about saving, from when it made sense (once they started to have their own money), well- they've struggled to budget + 'save, ' so I basically had them open a 3rd checking account that can do this automatically for them, which is PNC Bank. I hear Wells Fargo has a checking account with similar software.

Your 4th, 5th and 6th points addressing putting needs first- whew, establishing an emergency fund and paying down debts- Huge! But seeing how my 3 Millennials live, then what they define as- let me say this, view as a need vs want seems to be quite subjective with what I call perks of living in the 21st century i.e., food delivery & Netflix, weave, iPhone or unlimited plans. I know you said at the beginning of the video- you have one about side hustles. That helps. I remember after my divorce that I had no extra money for an emergency fund and every time I tried- it was depleted for my basic living expenses. This was 10+ years back. Ebay was around then but. Needless to say, in current times; there are so many more opportunities for people now to start an emergency fund. But it's going to be simply challenging as every day; I read about housing costs increasing due to rapid inflation that hasn't happened since 41 years. Crazy times for those who are already seeking to dig themselves out of a seemingly perpetual hole. Suffice it to say- some can't even think about paying down debts much. But adding $1, $5 to a minimum payment and/ or simply making a 2nd small payment of $1, $5 within the same billing cycle does go a long way.

Next- investing is wise. It's just that it's so complicated (to me) as a novice. So many resources. I do have a Robinhood account but I have been reading about how for beginners- maybe Stash, and Acorn might be a way "just to get started."

Last one- that is great. Finally, some fun $.
