I send my condolences to the families who are waiting to hear news of the missing passengers, and to the person who lost their life.😢

The Bayesian had a crew of 10 and had 12 passengers. Only the yacht’s chef died, and 6 passengers are missing and presumed drowned. The captain of the Bayesian, James Cutfield 51, told Italian police that he wasn’t monitoring the weather closely and the ship’s retractable keel was raised, even with an anchor depth of 160 feet. Lowing the retractable keel would have added stability and made it harder to capsize.

Just goes to show that no matter how much money you have, mother nature wins every time.

It wasn't docked, Gayle....it was anchored about 1 kilometer offshore.

Lynch's co-defendant also acquitted in the trial was just hit by a car and killed in England. Bad luck followed these two.

Whoever did this job was incredibly skilled! to get most all those who they wanted without getting the innocent people who were all on the same 180' yacht.

The super tall mast was a huge lever that flipped that yacht like a toy.

If the search has gone on this long, it’s now a recovery effort.

I sail an old alberg 30 sailboat. I’m not an expert sailor but stuff like this is avoided by looking at charts and weather patterns. Insurance companies will deny you taking your boat to certain parts of the world certain times of year. That being said nature is not predictable we just have good guesses.

The cost makes it super yacht, but not the durability

A tech lawyer, a mogul, and billionaire banker go down with their boat. Sounds like the set up for a joke. “That’s what I call a good start!”

Mother Nature rules. No man made luxury yacht can withstand the presence of Mother Nature. Respect her and don’t be shocked when she appears. She will take even the richest fools down.

This disaster is a classic case of size being no compensation for poor design and management choices. The large portholes (windows), open hatches (doors), too little ballast, and other factors no doubt contributed to this disaster. This yacht was a dock queen designed to impress wealthy people with more money than sailing ability or knowledge. In all probability, the sudden strong winds of the storm caused the yacht to heel past its downflooding point, especially with multiple doors and hatches wide open, which allowed many tons of sea water to pour in without warning. This triggered a cascade of events which led to the sinking of the yacht. This is why you never treat a ship or boat as a house. All openings must be sealed shut when not actually being used. Large portholes (windows) are bad design as they can be stove in by waves or wind driven objects, and ballast must be adequate to provide ultimate stability. The design pushed prudent design safety limits in the name of luxury an good looks, and seven people paid the price. For examples of proper design, look at ocean racers, cruisers, and designs derived from the same.

I've heard that the boats keel was liftet up as they lay at anchor. Stability was then seriously reduced

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remind your children to just build 160 meter NON MASTED super yachts like the rest of us so we can avoid the senseless deaths of the 1% who give so much to society!!🙄

The vessel was not docked.. that requires a pier or attachment to the shore. The vessel was at anchor in the sea.

Idk dude I run a normal 1, 200 h/p tug boat in New Orleans area and have instruments that can determine weather conditions and VHF radio with weather broadcasts and my vessel is NOTHING compared to what that super yacht was equipped with as far as advanced electronics!!! Just saying something’s not right!
