The Midwest has a rich history of Native, French, Italian, Polish, German, Norwegian, Amish. Tell me you've done no research without telling me you've done no research

This guy gets a ton of the history wrong...

The midwest cuisine consists of dishes from German and Polish immigrants. This guy did not do his research.

It's really kinda funny to me how much a lot of people outside of this country think all we do is burgers, french fries, and pizza. We're probably the most diverse nation on Earth and our status as a melting pot throughout our history is reflected in our cuisine.

Even just in the South, traditional Southern comfort food is a mix of traditional West African, Native American, French, and others. In Houston, there's been an influx of Asian influences on Cajun food(itself a mix of Spanish, Cherokee, and French), as Vietnamese immigrants have become widespread in the crawfishing industry along the Gulf and they used what they had available. You have multiple types of Mexican food throughout the Southwest(Tex-Mex, Arizona, New Mexican, Californian all are different types.) You have Surf and Turf in California, a ton of Cuban influence in Miami.

All of those are just off the top of my head as I'm not a good cook and I really only touched on the types in the Sun Belt as that's the cuisine I'm most familiar with. There are countless more.

He also didn’t even talk about “Barbecue, ” which has many entirely different meanings depending on what region you’re in.

As a Midwesterner, I have to STRONGLY disagree with him.

Omg the way he slams on the Midwest. What a disgrace.

This guy really didn’t give Midwestern food its due. Midwestern food isn’t all just weird sugary cool whip salads and bland casseroles

In my opinion and many other people’s opinions, Chicago is one of the top “foodie cities” in America. Other Midwestern cities like St. Louis, Milwaukee and Detroit also have great offerings

He's definitely a new yorker. And it sounds like he got his American history for this video from a Wikipedia article lol

When I saw his label of 'Midwestern "Food"', I skipped the rest of his video. That ... individual decided first to focus on the native American cuisine, then used a mocking or insulting set of quotation marks around an entire region's cuisines. If the reviewer is that transparent with their regional biases, their work should be viewed with a distinctly skeptical examination.

The 1st map is completely wrong. His knowledge is seemingly garnered from endless readings of Wikipedia pages.

Blue corn is often used to make tortilla chips, otherwise "food corn" is yellow corn.

The guy who made the video doesn't know much about food in America. The first one he listed, Pemmican, isn't made how he described it.

In Louisiana that should be Cajun and Creole foods.

I wonder how many foods he mentioned has he actually eaten. My guess is not many.

The corn you eat has been genetically modified to only be yellow. Also, bananas are supposed to have seeds in them but they have been modified not to.

The Midwest is not for foodies? Perhaps the last real Italian neighborhood in the country, "The Hill, " is in St. Louis. The grocers have foods from Italy. The dishes are a fusion of Italian-American with tons of small restaurants. St. Paul (egg foo won) sandwich? It was born in St. Louis. Gus's Pretzles and pretzle buns=Midwest. Pork Steaks. St Louis style ribs. St. Louis style pizza with cracker thin crust and Provolone cheese. The horseradish capital of the world. The grain belt for corn and wheat and the home of much of the world's soy beans. Umame anyone? Greek food? It's here. Steak either Angus or better (raised not far from the table). Roasted corn or kettle corn? Have you tried hominy? Korean BBQ? Try it here. Have you had an Italian Beef sandwich in Chicago wet with both kind peppers? Have you tried Kansas City BBQ? You know not of what you speak. Oh, and we brew most of the country's beer.

Corn was naturally multi-hued before the Europeans bred the varieties of yellow corn we eat today.
