South Africa’s Zolani Mkiva on art, resistance and Venezuela

On 28 July, election day in Caracas, Venezuela, we sat down with Zolani Mkiva from South Africa, a long-time friend of the Bolivarian Republic and its process of socialist construction. From Venezuela to South Africa, Cuba, Palestine, and beyond, Zolani has always centred the importance of cultural work, using music, poetry and art in an act of solidarity and internationalism.

In the context of a new period of US-backed imperialist aggression against Venezuela, learning from experiences of revolutionary arts and culture has become increasingly important.
