I’ve loved MIDI for years, and still have to have proper MIDI cables.
The older I get, the more straightforward I like it.

Nice! I have some good info from designing and using Midi for 30 years.
1) Anything that plays only one or two notes then randomly is probably having problems with running status. All PC softs recognize running status so can be run through that first.
2) Daisy chaining can cause a delay of nearly 1 mS per unit. (depending on the HW) Go in order of sync importance.
3) Some cheap 4x4 boxes from china don't pass SySex messages at all. This can be an issue. They also tend to be unstable when inputting (running status, complex setup messages like NRPN)
4) Midi merging is really good if not a high load (too many merges, good for drums latency etc)
5) If you can't daisy chain (no thru etc) you can electrically split a Midi Port to two synths. I have done 3 with no issues! This is easier done with TRS plugs but if you're a hardware hacker, use 3 - 5 pin sockets and match pins (done that myself)
6) If you have a Voice Live Touch 2 you definitely want to try Midi control!

As a musician of 40+ years, I never knew I could control other midi devices 😅 To be fair, I’m a brass player, bassist and vocalist and not a keyboardist 🥰 Although, I did have a pro midi keyboard and an expensive midi instrument controller with hundreds of instruments. I gave it to my daughter before realizing what I had 😅
