Communicating with people around the world has helped me a lot - in some cases saved my life. This is the tool I use the most to learn and memorise language. Very simple and very powerful mnemonics that cement difficult words and sounds into your head. If you're just setting out at learning a language or just want to brush up on some complex vocab this method is invaluable.

Let me know if you have questions or comments about this method. Part 2 coming soon.

I have a book on this way of learning, I have had it for many years, I used to learn how to remember whole sequences in a whole deck of cards.

Words first is so effective, especially for self learners. Had trouble with Spanish until I could watch a kids program and understand most of the verbs / nouns. Then all of the sudden, the articles, prepositions, etc and the grammar just began clicking. Started Japanese recently, and my primary goal now that I've learned the alphabets is 1k words and 500 kanji.

This method helps me so much with learning vocab. I don't know why it isn't spoken about more frequently.

I use mnemonics with pictures as well to memorize foreign words, but I'm still unsure of how to do this with complex words (either with meanings that are hard to visualize like "therefore", or with irregular verbs that have multiple endings that need memorizing). Can't wait for part 2!

The sound effects are WAY too loud compared to your voice. Please work on balancing the audio levels.

for me the word "yang" does not mean anything but it is used as a connection word to complete a sentence. the only minor problem is the suffix, prefix for this language but all of them are using the same roots.

Just a thought, but doesnt the story dwarf the word that you're trying to remember? Does it not take up more brain hard drive space?" I've used this method as well as a repeat-say-look away-make sentence method.

Problem is, with me at least, both methods are going to cause loss of memory unless immersed where you can speak to other speakers in target language. For example, a rural Arizonan may learn korean by either method, but if he doesnt speak regularly with a native speaker, he can lose it.
