The Nottinghill Carnival has always been dangerous, I remember it in the 1980's and it was full of crime back then. As a white Londoner, I avoided it like the plague.

Can only agree with this as my eldest stepson left the police years ago for this very reason. It got to the point that he would not challenge any ethnic minority unless directed to by a senior officer. They always pulled the race card and there was no support from the senior management.

Unfortunately treating everyone the same doesn't help because a larger majority of offenders are from ethnic groups . So it will appear as if the police are picking on more members of ethnic groups and once again the race card will be waved.

The Inspectors and higher officials need to step up and loudly support the police as well, or the police would feel helpless because the criminals are let out back on the streets.

I lived in Notting Hill 70s/80s/90s, its always been dangerous and violent which can break out at anytime especially on Bank Holiday Monday when the sun goes down when ordinary people realised what's happening and running away disoriented trying to out of the area terrified.

As an Afro Caribbean woman, I have a genuine appreciation for carnival celebrations. However, I believe relocating it to a venue with enhanced security measures is essential. The prevalence of security checks, including stop-and-search procedures, is necessary to deter individuals with malicious intent, thus preserving the event's enjoyment for everyone.
