How To Paint a Doorframe // 3 Easy Steps

Age 15-21: I started painting schools in the summers with my brother Josh. This is where I learned the basics.
Age 21: I graduated from Temple University and started painting full-time with Josh.
Age 21-27: I worked up to 60 hours a week, painting high-end homes and a large retirement community—up to 60 units a year.
Age 24: Josh and I became co-owners of Handyworks Painting LLC, making our painting business official.
Age 24 (also): We started working with Danken, a company that does kitchens and baths. We still work with them today.
Age 25: We began working with Gemmi Construction, a high-end company. We still work with them too.
Age 28: I learned how to stain wood like newel posts, handrails, and steps
Age 28-38: I kept getting better, learned to work faster, and delivered even better results. We were also able to charge more for our work because of the quality.
Age 34: I started this YouTube channel to help DIYers and homeowners with painting projects.
Age 38: I launched "Paint Your Home Now," a community to help people paint their homes quickly and easily.

My Dad was a house painter for over 60 years and he was asked by customers if he had any swatch paint samples. He'd point at his pants or shirt and say "Pick a Color" ! I kind of whished you'd have shown how to paint the outer side of the door frame that had a finished painted wall without using "frog or other type pf tape". Good video. No Caulking was harmed in the making of this Video. :)

Key Point. Long strokes.👍
Once paint is relatively distributed evenly. Then do a couple long strokes to make it flow at an angle of direction that you want.

Nice, but what the hell is the caulk gun for? Presumably to fill in some spaces or something like that, but it would’ve been nice to talk about that from a painters perspective.

You mentioned caulk in the intro. I know there are different schools of thought as to when to caulk. Say the walls and the trim need painting. Would you caulk the trim first, then paint the trim, then paint the walls? Or caulk after painting everything?

I can see you painting the casings but didn't see you paint the jamb in this video. Or did I miss it? Just wondering if there's any particular tips or technique with the jamb.

Use a roller; it doesn't leave any brush strokes. But not a foam roller; use a microfibre roller. Smooth as silk. And quicker.

Hi Jeremy, I've painted lots of door frames in the past, but non as bad as in my present home.
The frames at the top have big chips where the paint fell off, or something. Some are 2 inches wide.
Is there a procedure for this repair, or do I just paint over?

What grit of sandpaper should I use to use on trim and doors before painting. I’m painting over semigloss. And putting semigloss back on

What’s the advantage of using Duration or Emerald trim? Not that much of a difference in price, especially with Sales all the time. Love your content by the way!

Hi. Ive got new unpainted door case- jamb/door stop with new primed doors being installed in a few days. Will i have enough gap to prime and paint jambs etc after doors go on without ruining paintwork?

Unfortunately, new door and door frames are out of my budget. If I wanted to beautify the existing frames that I have, can I safely follow all of these steps for the same results ? Also, the paint color, is that your choice or is that the standard door frame color? Thanks for the info !

When you are putting coats over doors prevously painted with semi-gloss what do you utilize to degloss the old surface?

Feedback: A full supply list in the comments would help. You didn’t have the cutter in the initial supplies shown. You never used the caulk gun even though you showed it in the initial supply list. Would have helped to mention drying times for putty and the first coat.

I painted a door frame yesterday but I used a cheap brush and now they’re gross brush strokes that look really deep in the wood how would I go about redoing it
