you will probably need to cut your monstera

I finally decided to chop up and propagate my LARGE monstera. I used the air layering method as this will guarantee to get roots. It is a super simple method of growing roots before you even cut the plant!

Great job. You inspired me to do the same for my monsteras.

Great video. I have a monstera that hasn't grown much over the last few years, but luckily it's still alive. I will repot using a similar soil mix as yours and place it under better lighting conditions. Keep the videos coming.

I was given a small Monstera and I've been worried about it eventually getting super huge. Now I know that I can do this and keep the size under control! Thank you so much for your videos. I'm watching them all and learning so much! I'm sure my plants will be grateful.

I know it's an old video, but I've been watching your earlier videos today to rest my brain, and love what you did with your monstera. I actually did a very similar thing with mine - except that I did not go gently on it with air-layering. I chopped the trunk (it was about 3-4cm thick in the sized-up portion) with tree clippers, and stuck it in a bucket of water to root.

Surprisingly, I lost no leaves and it rooted in a couple of weeks, at which point I potted up the top cutting. However, your method is certainly a lot less risky and I may do it when I have to inevitably do it again. The monster is huge and lives in a 30L pot so no sizing up is feasible indoors.

I like the way you cut off the aerial roots and redirect them into the soil. Much cleaner look.

What a blessing you are to the plant community Jeff.. your experiments and adventures are fantastic! As a monstera grower I appreciate the fine job you did on your gorgeous monstera 🪴 Air layering must be the way to go.. I have a doubled moss pole with 2 monsteras on it that I care for, for my husband. Next time it needs attention I plan on air layering—that means 3 roots systems it seems 🙃😄. How long did the air layer take, and what season/time of year was it started if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks so much and have a lovely day! 🪴🌿🪴🌿🪴

Great video. I am amazed that the leaves did not burn as there were times where they were in direct sunlight.

Amazing, thanks for sharing this. I finally have a single stem monstera plant that's doing well, after trying several other times. Mine is about 4ft tall and getting bigger and bigger leaves. No inner perforations yet though.

Nicely done Jeff! How long did the air-layering take to grow such a big root system? Thanks for sharing Jeff!

Very good demo. I'd they're a video before this showing what and how to do the root growing in that plastic bag?
