Cozy Glow deserved BETTER

I also want to point out- I'm not attacking the writers of MLP, I'm attacking the actual in-universe characters. The writers wanted an evil filly, and there's really nothing I can do to criticize that. However- I can criticize the characters in universe for their method of teaching.

I’ve seen some interesting arguments, and I just want to add another point to the video real quick-

Some people say Starlight isn’t an adequate comparison, even though she successfully destroyed Equestria a dozen times over again.

Alright, fine. Then what about Chrysalis? She was standing right next to Cozy, and had kidnapped the princesses multiple times. In the season 6 finale, even after getting about as far as Cozy did in the season 8 finale, Starlight at least TRIED to offer her redemption.

Also- I see people attacking writers- this is not the point of this video. The point of this video is to attack the characters as if they were real people. I’m calling Twilight a hypocrite, not the people who wrote Twilight.

In Twilight's defense when it comes to punishing Starlight she did make her her student which means homework and homework sucks ass /j

Yes! Finally someone who actually likes season 8 & 9 like I do! And yeah, I completely agree with what you said. The only reason I think Cozy Glow wasn't reformed is because the writers didn't want to reform any villains in the final season and because Cozy Glow was introduced very late into the show she didn't have time to be reformed before the final season.

For sure, she definitely deserved better.

I would even argue that Twilight DIDN'T try to reform her. That small talk wasn't her offering a second chance or explaining why she was wrong, just that she was wrong. With Starlight, she actually tried to help her change, and its not like that mare was any less stubborn. Heck, even after seeing the bad future, she still needed convincing.

And that's not even getting into Discord, who never did anything to earn a second chance, consistently betrayed the trust and was forgiven all the time. And even after everything he pulled in season 9, he not only got to get away with it, but also got to pick Cozy's punishment.

Honestly, even if she were an adult, I would still believe that Cozy deserved better. Her being a child just makes it even worse.

> Start a friendship school
> Send a child to hell and not even thinking of reforming or getting her help for what she's done

I think what distinguishes Starlight from Twilight is that Starlight in the season 5 finale basically didn’t realize how significant Twilgiht and her friends were, as in opposition Cozy Glow tried to over throw a government

Edit: I also think the tonal whiplash comes from the idea of Cozy Glow vs. the execution. Looking at her inspiration, it seems like they wanted her to be a grown mare in the body of a child, but never got the chance to elaborate on that.

Just a reminder as to why this even happened, according to Jim Miller when addressed about Season 8. I'm not saying it's a good reason, it's just the official reason.

Cozy was intended as a subversion of expectations, as you wouldn't expect the main antagonist of an MLP season to be not only a child, but also a character introduced in the middle of the season instead of at the beginning or end of it. And on top of that to hit that nail in the subversive coffin, she wasn't given that chance at redemption to reverse what we've come to expect from major pony villains like Sunset, Starlight and Stygian. It was all broken due to how it was handled, of course.

And when asked for more justification for this decision, other writers stated that she, A. has no canonical parents that be brought to the table for helping her, and B. she was actually an adult in a child's body, like Baby Doll from Batman: The Animated Series. One is an oversight when it came to writing a villain like this, as at least with other evil children in media that are along the lines of Cozy Glow (Draco Malfoy, Porky Minch, etc.) we get some exploration of their home life and how they grew into the vile people they became, regardless if there was any justification. Cozy didn't get any of that, so that second excuse was thrown in.

Cozy Glow is perfect to be reformed, Imo. At a school of friendship, for teaching friendship to those who don't understand. That is literally Cozy Glow. I like Cozy Glow as a villain and all, but come onnn it's the perfect set-up. You mentioned her connections to Starlight? Why not have Starlight break through to her in the end. I mean, school counselor. Yknow, get her to stop trying to be evil for a few seconds so she can learn *friendship is not for power*

Starlight: an adult that enslaves a whole village for however long, kidnaps Twilight and her friends and ruins timelines in personal revenge against Twilight. Consequences? Becomes best friends with the princess of friendship, casual friendship with her friends and other princesses as well.

Cozy: a child that misunderstands the purpose of friendship and tried to do whatever Tirek did. Consequences? Hell, and then turned into stone for maybe 1000 years.

Fair is fair and Starlight is not a canon Mary Sue 👍

Ok so I agree with everything here. What makes me mad is that almost every other villain was offered the chance. Chrysalis kidnapped Cadence and left her in a mine to die, literally attacked Twilight, almost took over Canterlot, and then kidnapped almost everyone in Equestria to take it over. And SHE was offered Redemption. I don't hate the writing of the later seasons, I'm definitely not the biggest fan of them by any means, but Cozy Glows writing needed to be worked on. She was only evil when the plot called for it, she's easily the villain with the most screen time (minus Flim and Flam probably) and yet we no next to nothing as to why she wanted to do what she did. Even the writers probably didn't know since when she's asked she just basically glosses over the question.

A friend of mine had a theory that with the School of Friendship there was going to be a spinoff series for the young 6 and Cozy was going to be the main villain for them but the show never got off the ground and that's why they just didn't seem to know what to do with her.

"They gave Cozy Glow chances!"
Nope, Twilight had one conversation with her post the reveal she was evil and that was it. They did not even attempt anything besides the Tartarus imprisonment beyond that.
"Cozy Glow could manipulate everypony and that would make it hard for them to tell if she was really reformed or not!"
Starlight Glimmer literally ran Our Town with an iron fist and attempted to brainwash the Mane Six on screen, and also brainwashed the ponies of Our Town. She was just as manipulative as Cozy Glow, and she still got a reformation arc.
"She almost tired to destroy Equestria-"
Starlight messed with the timeline and made multiple bad futures which for all we know, could still exist for the sake of revenge. Nightmare Moon took over and wanted to make the night last forever. Discord threw Equestria into chaos. Tempest Shadow was one of the Storm King's underlings. All were reformed.
Anyway if you're gonna say Cozy Glow deserves to be stone its only fair Discord is in the garden with her. Literally everything in Season 9 was his fault, and it's not magically better because he wanted to "help" Twilight

They litteraly put a child in prison and then changed her into a statue :') she's still young, she had a whole redemption path ahead tbh

EDIT : Calm down guys, we've all done horrible stuff for our own amusement or interest as kids and then realized it was wrong af, she was just on a whole other scale, but still, putting a child in litteral hell doesn't seem like the best solution to me

I hate it when people tried to argue that she WAS given a chance and she denied it- no, nopony actually even TRIED!! And you mentioned that Starlight did the same thing, and i somehow didnt even consider that! Yeah! Why is it any different for this grown mare than it is for this small child?

I wish there was an alternate version of Season 9 where episode 8 was the start of a reformation for Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrysalis (as in, they actually accept the burgeoning spark of friendship instead of rejecting it) and Grogar was actually Grogar who comes right on the cusp of defeating the heroes before Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrysalis suddenly show up to save the day.

Speaking of, when Grogar was revealed to be Discord, I immediately started thinking that he might have been trying to engineer a spark of friendship in those three, to give them a chance at reformation like Fluttershy had given him. My disappointment was immeasurable when it was almost immediately after revealed that he was just trying to stage an 'epic battle' at Twilight's coronation.

Starlight telling Twilight to be quiet is probably something we all wanted to do when she would start another friendship speech.

My question is: How did Cozy get in contact with Tirek in the first place, and why did she feel the need to seek out evil powers at all? What does her cutiemark represent?? WHY Did she choose to be evil???
I agree she should have had an attempt for reformation, but I'm curious about what lies behind Cozyglow. Why did she want to do any of this in the first place? "Power is to make friends, " but does Cozy want power, or friendship, and why go to such extremes to get it??
It could just be an odd choice from the writers but if there are missing pieces they'd be fun to chat about- If anyone has any theories please share because I genuinely wanna figure this out.

I actually just pretend that The Ending of the End didn't happen and instead the real Grogar returned. The heroes and villains teamed up to stop him, the villains learned the value of friendship and everyone lived happily ever after. You know... WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE WRITERS HADN'T BEEN SO GUNG HO ON THAT STUPID GrOgAr wAs aCtUaLlY DiScOrD PlOt tWiSt!!!

It’s funny when Tempist, the terrorist who did one good thing, was let go without any repercussions.

While the child who had most likely been manipulated by Tirek, was thrown into hell and then turned into a rock.

I get it, her actions where heinous, but she’s a child who doesn’t know better 😂

3:39 this comparison reminds me of how in Tangled the series Varian whos like 14 gets sent to jail for kidnapping the queen and whatever instead of like… therapy? but then Cassandra tries to destroy the entire kingdom and kill Repunzal multiple times and gets sent off without consequences
