Xerjoff Aqua Regia - real world fragrance review

In this video, I’m reviewing Xerjoff Aqua Regia, an elegant fragrance that masterfully blends dark leather and smooth iris with a vibrant burst of fruity top notes. I’ll explore how the juicy opening transitions into a more refined heart, where the powdery iris and rich leather take center stage, giving the scent a sophisticated, timeless feel. Aqua Regia’s luxurious composition perfectly balances freshness with depth, making it both bold and polished. If you’re into fragrances with a classy yet daring profile, this is one to check out. You are at the top of the fragrance review genre. We appreciate your approach and the authentic exploratory angle; it's very natural and easily understood by "intuitive types". Your format sticks out in a world full of cheap gimmick employers who absolutely miss the fact that first and foremost, fragrances are an art-form to be enjoyed by the wearer and not some fad to follow in the hopes of getting reactions from other people (which is an embarassing mentality to say the least...)

Speaking of cheap... If you feel up to it and get the chance, check out some lesser known middle-eastern houses. Affordable is no longer synonymous with a lesser quality scent. Bottles might be generally less appealing but I'm happy to know the company spent their bucks on the juice instead of marketing and presentation (although I love a good presentation). The use of synthetics can also be a factor of course, but that can be tasteful.

Once my affairs are sorted I might be able to send you a sample pack if interested so I won't just come off as an entitled stranger trying to influence from afar without giving anything back to support.

Not only are there hundreds of affordable offerings which often rub the floor with their overhyped and overpriced "competitors" but contrary to popular belief there are lots of great "originals" coming out from the middle-east, they just don't get the same attention as "clones" or inspired bys.

I'm not sure what your stance is but extrapolating from what I've seen from you, I'd imagine you try to stay clear from houses which have "clones" among their creations.

Now of course there are those which straight up attempt to copy the bottle and fail to do their own twist on the juice they are trying to hop off of, but that's not really what I'm interested in; although side-by-side comparison would still be entertaining, I'd wager you have better, more interesting things to spend time on and that's appreciated.

Anyway; the fragrance world is changing. More and more people are realizing that a lot of these well-known houses are practically ripping us off. These brands which spend most of their budget on packaging and marketing while putting out worse and worse re-formulations are worth it less and less for true fragrance enjoyers.

On the other side of the isle, there are houses such as Lattafa, Al Haramain & Rasasi which are most definitely not as consistent in quality as Amouage for example, but with a 10th of the price they often churn out so called "original" (no such a thing as fully original tbh) nieche gems which go under the radar due to the focus on hyped "clones" and mainstream offerings.

It's becoming more commonplace that 30-50 bucks gets us a fragrance which out-performs and out-shines 300-500$ frags, all while having a jaw-dropping quality for the price. This is also great for widening the palette as for a couple hundred $ you could get 40+ great samples to try out; this is an amazing opportunity for olfactory explorers.

I'd be interested to hear your takes while trekking your way through a middle-eastern sample haul. The price, quality and wide range of attar options is simply way too good to ignore now.

Lattafa or Haramain might not have the long-lived prestige of well known fragrance houses but I think that's all the more reason to put aside elitism and experiment to find treasures. There are lots of originals and inspired by twists which are worth genuine attention and conversation.

I'd find it silly to recommend a specific fragrance to you. I have no idea what inspires you or anyone else for that matter and the choices are related to personal research & the present moment; I think that's for the best

Love Nudiflorum. I keep looking for an edgy rough animalic skanky oud Xerjoff fragrance to get into but the search is endless. Gao? Alexandria II? Recommendations welcome. Great in depth reviews which I appreciate. Keep up the great work.

I got 2 Casamorati; 1888 and Quattro Pizzi. I really like both. 1888 has a camphorous rootbeer amber vibes that reminds me of the fallen decomposing leafs from a special Japanese Katsura tree. So it's a fall & halloween favorite. Quattro Pizzi is a summer sun and water boating scent. Tuberose dominate with a little hmm? so it gives me that challenging feel. It's composed nicely with some masculine edges. And it's quite potent. Lasting on skin until the next day. Clothes until washed. Was my favorite scent of summer 2024.

I really like the Casamorati flacons.

I love Xerjoff but this one is literally a flatter, more boring version of Soleil De Jeddah by Stéphane Humbert Lucas. I got a sample of Aqua Regia the other day and noticed the comparison immediately. I recommend Astaral from this collection.

When it comes to Xerjoff . It’s all about the stone label. There more expensive ones are the best . The ones that a cheaper are very mid ppl won’t say it but I will . But the stone label is xerjoffs at its best Pikoviya Dama!! Richwood !!! Absolute masterpieces .

Xerjoff's candle burned really fast. They started as luxury brand but being a Frederic Malle is not for everyone, they missed the point due to lack of taste/vision and now they are aiming down. The boat parties full of any kind of inflencers, ANY KIND, it's clearly a sign that they are changing their target.

I find Xerjoff difficult to navigate. Many times I’ve sampled Xerjoff fragrances based on listed notes that I favor. Usually the scent does not match up to the olfactory experience that I imagined. Sometimes in a good way, but more often not. Xerjoff is like a beautiful high quality niche fragrance mine field. Sample first or pay the price 💣. 😉

This line from Xerjoff is really intresting and high quality. Ilm' from that line is actually stunning. Real oud, woods and oakmoss. Not for the faith of heart

safe to say Xerjoff is not the perfume house we should focus on and wait in excitement for their next release 😅
As for the Kemi line (or Kemi blue?), I found Ilm to be quite peculiar and I'm thinking it might spark your interest.
PS: any interaction with Al-Jazeera? Some very good noses created some of their perfumes.

Hi Daniel, may I ask your nationality? I love your accent and the way you pronounce Xerjoff

I had this one on my radar! Now it's easier to discard it and put a new one on the list for the next few weeks until Black Friday or when I see they are running low on Jomashop. I've been researching "Complex" by Boadicea The Victorious! I love hard, difficult fragrances. Have you tried this one?

Ah well, I’m in a similar boat with my recent blind buy of Copal Azur. I thought for sure I was going to love it, given its incense base and a Bertrand Duchafour creation, but it’s just not clicking with me. And being the only full bottle I’ve paid full price for, this is unacceptable. I’m on the fence about keeping it until spring to see if the different season makes it more favorable, or selling it now.

Doesn't Aqua Regia remind you of Oud for Greatness, but less synthetic

I have Aqua Regia....

I agree with you it is not worth its price...not even its discounted price, which I paid. One of my worst blind buys.
"Half baked" is such a great phrase for this fragrance. You nailed it with that phrase. There is nothing inspiring in this nor interesting nor challenging nor avant garde nor even something that can be wildly popular in a generic type "nice" scent. It is the definition of meh.
