Robert Trognée et ses Virtuoses - Retour Des Hirondelles

Included on my playlist “Fabriqué en France; 130 Chansons”.

This fine tune, recorded in Paris in May 1935, was written by Blackie Pagano (pianist) and Robert Trognée (accordionist), both of whom play on the track. It translates as "Return of the Swallows".

I first heard the piece away back in the early 90s when it was superbly recorded by Sharon Shannon.

Don’t you just love it when you bump into the original when you least expect it? Ha-ha, I remember this was just such the case when I picked this up a few years back on the 2CD set "Accordéon Vol. 1: Musette/Swing/Paris 1913-1941" (Frémeaux & Associés ‎DH-002, 1999).
