nerida hansen fabric update | aaronica sews

I didn't think that I was going to have an update so soon but here we are.
One of the things that I don't understand is how the supporters of Nerida Hansen are faulting those that are fed up with waiting literal years for their fabrics or refunds. Someone actually had the nerve to say something like "so much for women being for other women". Nevermind the fact that this woman literally has a long trail of creating businesses and then leaving customers waiting for money or product before filing for bankruptcy and being off the hook for what she owed customers.
This is not fair how she's out here not delivering on promises made to customers and then blaming everyone but herself.

I hate the female "cat fight" aspect to this all. Nerida is trying to intimidate women who are attempting to be assertive by calling them "mean girls" and then having some brainwashed followers defend her and add to the pile on. Customers (the majority of whom are women) deserve to receive the products they have paid for in a fair and reasonable timeframe just like every other business they purchase from. They should not be expected to passively sit by and carry the emotional baggage associated with the business owner. Some of her excuses for delivery delays have been downright offensive (e.g. her ADHD/mental health, overseas cultural holidays, family commitments of staff during school holidays etc). None of this is relevant to the customer. It's unprofessional and only serves to weigh down customers with a sense of guilt for daring to complain about their outstanding orders. The level of gaslighting is unreal. All I can say is I hope customers can learn from this experience that as women we need to learn to be assertive, to not carry other people's baggage for them and to not feel guilty for standing up for our rights no matter how uncomfortable it may feel.

You have been incredibly diplomatic in these videos and offered so much respect when Nerida has not. I commend you for it! I found out about all of this from Sarah and am so appalled at the awful treatment that customers have received. It's clear that she is spending her time stalking social media for what people say about her and sending petty responses rather than doing what she should be doing and fulfilling orders / refunding customers. It's such a shame.

I also think that she is benefitting from a community that is usually very positive and generally avoids any criticism or "negativity". At the end of the day, certain things need to be said and people need to be held accountable. I'm glad you and others are speaking out and collectively organizing. I'm eagerly waiting for a reporter to sniff out this story and do an in-depth investigation...then there will be no place for anybody to hide.

Thanks for the update. I did find it kind of hilarious that she makes "woe is me" posts, complaining that people are being "so mean", probably expecting she'd get sympathy but just seeing person after person commenting that while they understand her challenges, that does not make it ok to have taken their money, her poor customer service, her lack of communication etc. AND Riddle me this: if she has such severe ADHD that she can't be organized enough to keep track of and ship out orders, how is it that she's able to shut down, start up and promote new businesses, and take and hang on to people's money? The one thing just doesn't fit with the other. She seems to just think the rules don't apply to her, and that's an entirely different problem.

I came for tea and while I did get that, I’ve taken away more. I love the care with which people are dealing with this situation. The things that customers are asking for are reasonable, people are helping each other and in a time of such divisiveness, it’s beautiful to see a community coming together. Wish it weren’t because of this but gimmie my silver linings! I hope everyone gets a satisfactory resolution and that she takes the excellent advice of focusing on the creativity (which seems to be her stronger suit) and outsource the rest. Sure, you’ll have to pay for those things which I know can be tough for a small business, but it’s an investment in the success and longevity of your business. Seems worth it.

Stay fly, Ms. Aaronica. 💕

I'm ADHD and ASD and there are a few things I know I shouldn't commit to because it's so much of a struggle that it's not worth the anxiety and mental health to do, no matter how much I would like to. Delivering goods in a timely manner is one of those things I just can't commit to. I tell my kids regularly that ADHD is an explanation, not an excuse. I would love to hear your experiences as a small business owner with ADHD because even medicated, some days are a struggle and I'm always looking to hear what others with similar struggles use for coping skills. Thanks for sharing your story and being a genuinely good person, not dishing tea with hate but with compassion. Telling it like it is, but not for the drama. Truth is truth, and we don't need to take delight in tearing others down to tell the truth. Thank you. Keep being you.❤

Thank you for this timely update. Around the time of your first video, I received an email about a sale of new print on demand fabric as well as stock fabric. I considered buying some stock fabric but didn’t understand why it would need to be printed, so I didn’t order. Today I received an email entitled “My Statement is Now Online” which includes a link to the statement on her website. Under the header “social media lies & misinformation” she says ‘we condone Reddit comments or anything that is posted anonymously, and a recent YouTube story called “The Rise and Fall in Neruda Hansen Fabrics” is not worthy of investing energy.” The facebook page is also mentioned. I agree that her fabrics are beautiful, but because her business practices are confusing to say the least, I will not become a customer. I appreciate the fair and objective manner in which you have covered the issues surrounding NH. Like you, I do wish her success in her business, but also wish she would listen to her customers and to the valid advice offered. If you would like, I can send you the email. New subscriber, and I look forward to your next video. Thank you, Aaronica.

The biggest takeaway I'm getting here is that putting pressure on the Australian government to improve consumer rights would be the best thing people could do at this point. Find the Australians in the group and run a coordinated letter writing campaign using this as an example - it has to be to your own local MP in Australia for them to be able to do anything about it. I know people think signing petitions means something, but MPs have to legally respond in writing if contacted by a constituent, whereas petitions can be ignored and binned. You would first have to decide what changes you want, I would suggest that a reasonable ask would be there should be a three month limit to wait time on per-ordered goods being shipped out, and if that hasn't happened then then the customer has the option of a no fault refund.

Thank you for sharing this update! One of the comments you read was mine and firstly, I wasn't blocked -shock, and secondly I basically was trying to post what we're all thinking and after watching your 1st video, what you might have said. Really hoping that the authorities do step in because I can't see her changing anything on her own!

All I can say is wow! I watched the first video and couldn't believe this was going on. Thanks for giving us this information.

Hello 👋!!! You should consider the company Spoonflower in Durham, North Carolina for custom printed fabrics . I know a couple of people who ordered from there and they were happy with their service .

Thanks Aaronica. Will you be doing a video on the 'Passion to Profit' topic that's been on CraftSnark?

What really gets me is that she’s just going to start another business and do it again. Agreed that people should all be given refunds, but I bet the ACCC can’t stop her from starting new businesses.

Waiting that long for a refund in this economy? Girl. That's an interest-free loan all these people have given her. The *least* she can do is pay them back.

Did anyone else notice how her "newest" biz name, Future Folk Studio, the initials are FFS? The jokes just write themselves, how do you not even notice that when coming up with your newest business name... 😂😂😂

I just don’t get why she keeps trying to intimidate those who have supported her by buying the fabrics. But like many have said either her businesses are severely flawed or she’s indeed a scammer. Thanks for sharing. I haven’t bought anything from her directly but have bought from fabric stores who stock her fabrics. I still really like the prints but there’s a taint with it now. Also I feel for the small shops who have bought stock and now may be stuck with stock that has a taint on it because of this one big flaw. I just hope she calls to action and gives refunds or sends the outstanding items.

Another new What?! Wow. A new business does not fix subpar business ethics and practices. I pray she gets the right help both on a personal and professional level.

I'm very struck by how this situation is so similar to other stories I've heard in the knitting world.

Exclusive, small business, boutique goods are offered, people make orders, and then either the received goods don't match what was promised, or the order is never fulfilled at all.

And then when it all comes to light, there are sad stories about life getting in the way, and denials, and yeah, often histories of multiple businesses uncovered.

I do think that the current state of both craft and the economy encourages people to try to make money on areas where they shouldn't be. I've been told several times I should sell what I make (I bet most of the makers watching this video have heard the same 😀), but I did the math, did some micro-scale experiments, and learned very quickly that I couldn't earn what would have made the effort with it. I lost maybe a couple hundred dollars, but it was at a charity sale, so meh. At least people were buying things is already made, so I didn't have the money flow nightmares described in this video.

But sometimes people don't get good feedback, and think that if they do things just a little differently next time, it'll all work out. But then it doesn't, and it doesn't, and it doesn't again, and sometimes they can get stuck, I think.

I guess that’s all we should expect from cheap Chinese fabric, especially when it’s marketed as ‘ethical’.

I had to unfollow her on Instagram because I couldn’t bear the self-pitying reels and posts. I find her lack of humility and accountability the worst - if she put her hands up, admitted she’d f*cked up and asked for help then people would probably feel much more favourably towards her.

Why doesn't she just put her designs on Spoonflower?
