The leading cause of habitat destruction is animal agriculture, because not only do you need the land for animals themselves to live on but you need all the land to grow their food, which you have to feed them for months or years until they are of slaughtering age.

Not to mention that much of the food an animal eats is not used for growing. Animal agriculture is the most wasteful and least efficient method of farming food, and actually uses up more food to feed the animals than it produces. It's a net loss of food.

Animal agriculture is also a leading cause of greenhouse gases that create climate change, changing the temperatures of areas animals live, and many cannot cope with this change.

Please, if you care about the natural environment, cut all animal products, meat, eggs and dairy out of your life!

read the science fiction writter Dougal Dixon. he talks about interesting genetic engineering done to preexisting life forms so that new niches can be filled. is highly interesting. one of his books talks about that but with humans as a base of the engineering, and the book spams 5 millions years!
