Keep Eigg the way it is. I think the people there are doing a fine job. Shows what can be done when like-minded people value what is good and healthy for those to live.

What a wonderful place. They are all people that have discovered what is most important in life. I would love to live in a community like that.

Best answer I've ever heard- "basically you have to be sick on Tuesday. Its the only time the doctor comes."

"So, what are they talking about this week?" Meaningful pause "Mainly you."

Certainly makes one wonder if what you have is what you really want.

Reminds me of the film “Local Hero” which was about two guys from a big oil company who visited a tiny island for purposes of buying land for the corporation. The people who lived there were quirky and independent, and as time went on the two oil company guys fell in love with the place. After watching the movie, I also wanted to move there. Catch this movie, it has some unexpected turns and also an unforgettable performance by Burt Lancaster.

God Bless that anonymous Lady who donated the large sum of money.

Thats how communities formed hundreds or more like thousands of years ago, until the tribe from the next island decided they liked yours !! but nonetheless there must have been wonderful interludes of peace . Beautiful .

Striking landscape. Watching this is almost as satisfying as sipping a nice glass of quality single malt.

When the island was for sale I remember my dad writing to Cadburys to see if they would buy it for the locals as part of a marketing campaign for the cream egg, they replied but said it wasn't something they could do.

Great story. I visited Skyy not long ago and was astonished to learn the entire island was formed by a massive volcano. The main town there, Portree, has an incredibly booming B&B industry.
