in turkey we eat these as a snack by themselves, most people who haven’t eaten it growing up tend to find them very sour/ bitter but to me it’s very refreshing and a healthy alternative

Made umeshu with these plums. With syrup I also love adding shiso leaves as well.

There’s a Middle Eastern lady that comes to my Berry Stand and she always asks if she can pick unripe plums off the tree. She eats them in two bites.

It's nice to see the process of making plum syrup. The plums are also starting to ripen where I live. I'm planning to make plum syrup myself soon. I also watched Parasite, but I didn't know that scene featured plum syrup. :)

In Iran people usually eat unripe plums with salt and mint and it is one of my absolute favorite snacks

BTW that's not just regular plum. it's type of Asian, early spring blossoming plum/apricot called "maesil" from Korea. In my opinion, it looks and tastes closer to apricot than plum, how they both ripen yellow, and has hairy peel. Some people make maesil syrup with ripen fruit as well, but it is more common to do so with unripen fruit as shown in the video. So the maesil tea, tastes like mix between grape juice with apricot, and sour lemon, and the drink is usually served cold like ice tea.

I buy this syrup from a Korean family farm here in California. They have a booth at my local farmer's market in Newhall, CA. I use the syrup when making fresh kimchi (we developed a love for fresh kimchi, so I make it at least once a month). My husband enjoys adding the syrup to tea and smoothies.

It’s commonly known and eaten in the middle east especially in Lebanon we call it “Araaon” and it’s not always bitter it just depends if the seed is bitter. Some seeds are sweet and usually people throw away the seed and the actual fruit tastes sour so we eat it with salt it’s very delicious. It’s not commonly sold you have to have a relative or a friend that grows them that would get you some
