Question of the Day (A week late) : What editing softwares do you use??

The problem with any Lightroom/Photoshop alternatives is that they don't have enough tutorials. It's extremely difficult for beginners to learn to use those new softwares.

2:45 that’s me!
It was lovely to meet you in Corfu. I was a little star struck and wish I was a little less so I could have actually had a conversation with you but I just couldn’t really get my words out :P

Thank you for the video too!

Lightroom is non destruction.. it’s all stored in xml files.. in photoshop make the layer a smart object

Try Affinity Photo as well, i think its like $50 for the whole thing and its absolutely insane! Very close to Lightroom! And i believe it just creates adjustment layers automatically for you which is soooo nice!!

Lightroom doesn't do destructive edits. With something being destructively edited you basically can't go back to the original file. Which in Lightroom you can. Not sure what you're referring to by saying Lightroom does destructive edits.

Sooo, Luminar is more like a Camera Raw alternative, since one of the most important features of Lightroom always was and still is management of photos.
And btw: just because something doesn't offer layers, this doesn't mean it's working destructive. Lightroom is completely non-destructive.

We can see this being a solid competitor to Lightroom. At that price, it pretty much already takes the cake. Appreciate the info, Sawyer. Digging the fit too!

And a second alternative is ON1 Photo RAW which does have a browse module for culling and previewing your photos. It also has all the non-destructive features, adjustment layers and effects. All can be applied or used with adjustment brushes and masks. ON1 is also a purchase software, not a subscription. It works amazing.

As a beginner to editing the costs of Adobe are obscene, i have started using Affinity Photo and Luminar looks a perfect partner.
Great video, thanks yet again for the education.

I started working directly with luminar and its fantastic! There are a lot of tutorials online, but test it is a great and fast exercise! Today the new AI Sky feature is out and it work fine!

Note that if you want to wean yourself off Adobe's expensive membership, you can get an alternative to both Premiere and After Effects by using Blackmagic Design's Davinci Resolve. It is not only an industry standard colour grading tool, but it is also a cataloguing tool, a full-fledged NLE, and a special FX compositing tool (which can do anything that AE can do). You can get all this functionality for free. The paid version is only $300 and that gets you some extra functionality and performance. It runs on Mac, Windows, Linux. It can do things Adobe can't do - like collaborative editing on the same project at the same time over the network (paid version). It's a monster that gets regularly updated, and it also has a built-in DAW (digital audio workstation).

One thing I would love to see is a review down the road after you use this after sometime and comparing it to Lightroom. I plan on getting a laptop to take my photography to the next level and I feel like this app has the potential to be something great!

Can you load multiple photos, edit one, then synch a number of others with
the same settings ?

I have a bit of Photoshop skills but no Lightroom experience. Would I understand Lightroom, jumping straight into, it fairly easily instead of jumping into Luminar?
