What John is trying to say is as a community we are offended by everything that people say, but we are not ashamed of anything WE do.

African blacks can come here and have success in one generation. Making excuses for past grievances and having one party playkate this emotion is why I despise the dems. We need people to tell others they have dominion over their own success. Yes, some people have advantages, but that is life and another excuse.

I joined the Air Force 1982, did 20 years and recently retired from the Department of Labor after another 20 years. I am 64. What has really changed in my lifetime for many of us? When I pull up the school stats for my home zip, 43203, they are worse than they were when I exited in 1982. Reading and math proficiency rates are abysmal. I looked at several sources, not wanting to acknowledge the results. Is it possible to be this bad in 2024? I don’t have answers, but something has to change. Compare this to zip 43209, literally 20 minutes walking distance, every stat is reversed. I agree with Glenn. Promoting responsibility and ethical behavior is very important.

There should be no shame in failure but there should be shame in poor effort.

Love this conversation it’s deeply needed in the black community.

No, Glen, you’re not the only one. We are so few because courage is the least popular of all the virtues. The unwillingness to criticize your own community is evidence of an idolatry to the god of Race.

2:41 Spot on, Glenn. Personal agency is key. People that have mistreated me or done me wrong have almost never been part of fixing the damage. Looking to agents of damage to turn into agents of repair is a waste of time.

Love the colorless commentary of these guys. It's about the content of one's character.

When I was in the army, the importance of one’s population of origin fell away in the face of being just some Americans, and I’ve carried that with me ever since. It’s a huge breath of relief to stop giving a fuck about group identity and take people as the individuals that they are. No one cares if you’re black

It’s easy for some people to blame some abstract force causing their failures vs examining what they did wrong and what they can do to improve. Easy to blame the abstract that is hard to disapprove.

I agree with Dr Thomas Sowell. Many of the problems of Black America today is based in Black culture. Every sub-group in America had major problems and every single one of them have come out of it because of their culture.

Even those coming here from Africa are all doing better than their American counter-parts (accept for Somlians) because they are not steeped in Black American culture. And that is the most telling sign. Why is it those from Africa, who have black skin are all capable of doing very well if there is systemic racism?

A while back I listened to entire Malcolm X speeches and he sounds incredibly right wing Republican by today's standards.

Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele and Glenn Loury are three of the most important teachers in my life.

I feel the same way about many of the folks in my small town. Show some damn pride!! Paint your freaking house! Mow your damn grass!! Clean up your property. It saddens me to see the downward spiral of my home town.

It’s only racism if one refuses to accept responsibility for their acts.

5:30 "dad's not around partly because of the war on drugs." No, no, no, John. 70% of black kids grow up in single parent homes. Less than 2% of black men are in jail. Do the math.
