In 2021 Google achieved our fifth consecutive year of matching 100% of our operational electricity consumption with renewable energy purchases – the only major public cloud provider to have reached this milestone. This has been an important step in our sustainability journey, but there are still regions and times of day where clean energy is unavailable and we are forced to rely on fossil fuels to meet our electricity needs.
