ULTRAKILL, i guess this game is recent, but the soundtrack begins with a calming music and later the big bang shows up

*Everybody gangsta till the statue starts moving*

"Forgive me my children"
"For I have failed to bring you salvation from this cold, dark, world."

I always liked to interpret this as being the inevitable end credits song of the game. The first theme you hear when you enter the first level is called "Into the Fire" so I always imagined the ending being that you've wiped out the angelic council, you've wiped out every demon, husk, and angel, and now you're in an infinite field set up like battle arenas. You search for a single enemy, for anything to kill, but you can't find anything, and then the credits begin to roll on the side as the song plays. You get slower as you move, you can't dash anymore, your health is slowly draining as you lose fuel, and then eventually you die... as now the fire is gone.

I'm so glad that Hakita used so many different sounds and genres in the Ultrakill ost, it makes it that more special.

with how many lietmotifs there are in ultrakill i really think it'd be sick if 9-1 was a full breakcore styled remix of the fire is gone, maybe even title it "the fire is burning out"

Now we finally know what the song's name means.

Dude, I had the same itch: I only wanted to listen to this song on repeat because it has such a nostalgic and gentle vibe and I was tired of clicking on timestamps every time it ended. You are a life saver.

idk why but this track just makes me cry. Its so somber, regret filled. And this feeling is only amplified by what the game is normally.

I see people comment about how they imagine a sad ending or fading of something while listening, but honestly all I imagine is someone rising from rubble into greatness.

This is the perfect example of the word 'melancholy'.

I swear if I hear this song faintly in the back of my head when I'm in my 60's, all the memories from this era are gonna come rushing back in a flash!

This song is so gritty and depressing, it makes you feel a kind of happiness you can't explain

I feel like this is the best OST from Ultrakill. Yes, I love "War Without Reason" and "The Death of God's Will" more than myself, but THIS... THIS OST makes me forget about all my problems. It describes the whole game perfectly, all of it melancholic plot with Gabriel and the Heavens, the God dying/going away, rough and mean lore with the 200-ish years of war, all of it memes with KITR and Florp, and other stuff, like potentially foreshadowing the death of V1 too as V1 will eventually kill everyone in Hell and there will be no fuel left (and it has for me quite desperate vibe). It all comes together here. I can't describe my infinite love to this OST. I love this OST more than anything else in the world. It's really calm and makes me just accept everything, forget about all my shameful situations and problems, forget about the inevitable death of me and humankind. When I listen to this there's nothing left of my feelings but love and acceptance. And smile.

the quote “you’re chasing phantoms” can be applied to us humans as well. we always have a desire that is downright impossible, but should we give up? no, unless its something horrific.

Youre in a field.
Hades is dead, or at least you cannot extract more blood from his tainted, enormous hands.
The arena is without bounds.
You only have the suggestion of direction by looking at the tunnel going up into the sky, your beacon of progress.
The first to shut down is your speaker.
You are mute.
The next is your left hand.
The jaw of Hades, your greatest foe, falls to the ground beside your bloody, beaten legs.
You play an internal audio file to comfort yourself, as the end is coming.
Detecting no enemies to vampirize, your blood extraction conduits shut down.
One after the other, more and more vital mechanics of your being deplete themselves of your regulator's power and become quiet.
The only thing you could externally hear was your fan whirring, but soon your microphone array goes offline as well.
After an uncertain amount of time, laying on the bloody, corpse-laden arena, you starve yourself of blood and become blind, then paralyzed, then hibernating.
After yet more time, you are dead, your internal components running out of blood to sip on.
Your fire is gone.
Hell is silent.
Blood is a curse.
Mankind is extinct.

When you just P-ranked P-1 and you sit in the menu with this... Shit's different.

Same vibe as Deep Stone Lullaby playing in orbit after you just beat your first raid/dungeon/GM in Destiny (or, at least, back when it still played in orbit).
