What Cert Should I get Next? (After CompTIA A+)

What would you recommend getting after CompTIA A+? Network+ or Security+?

That’s a good question. For me, I ended up getting A+ and then Security+, and then Network+ after that. It’s generally a good idea to get that CompTIA trifecta.

You also get a couple stackable certes these days if you get all three of those.

And then after that, I would kind of venture into some vendor certifications.

For me, I ended up getting CCNA and then some Microsoft certs.

So an equivalent today–you might look into getting AZ-900 which is Azure Fundamentals,

Or AZ-500, which is some kind of security-related Azure cert, or the AWS counterparts,

Or look into CCNA if you’re interested in networking (difficult).

But after the CompTIA trifecta, I would try to start working to be honest,

and then kind of figure out what you like and then go from there!

Super good question, and good luck with whatever you decide to do!

If you're taking your time to finish these then then keep in mind that the Security+ will renew your Network+ and A+, but the Network+ DOES NOT renew the Security+ it only renews the A+

Just finished my Security+ and I'm studying for a CCNA. The security+ really just showed me how much network and security go hand in hand and it just feels like the right direction to build knowledge in.

personally I have the A+ and the Network+ but this was through technical college and the security plus would have cost me another six months which I applied toward an associates. So now I have the A.S. Network Systems Technology and the two certs, hoping to get an entry level. But I already KNOW I want networking over security, first and foremost. Most entry level jobs just like to see the A+, in my experience searching for jobs, maybe the Network+. Security+ is definitely for people who want jobs working for the government, but then you'll need a bachelors as well, correct me if I'm wrong.

I’ve been watching all your videos lately and man I love your channel!!! Your advice is amazing. I’m brand new to all of this, currently in college for computer science. Trying to get into the cyber security field one day :)

I got CCNA instead of network + back in 2012. Now I want to go after Security +, because I want to get into cyber security. MAYBE later i get A+. I've been building my own computers since 2000. I've tried a couple A+ practice tests got close to passing. Was surprised in that A+ is a bit more to it than I thought but ... maybe later.

I already have my Security+. I'm working on my CySA+ because being a cyber analyst is what i love to do. Do you recommend still working on A+/Network+ if you don't enjoy networking very much?

Hello Josh.
Hope all is well.
Do you feel as though YOU, had a special talent for computers? My goal is to get into any part of Cybersecurity, Pentester, Soc Analyst or whatever. I watch your shorts and I am wondering if WGU is a good fit for someone like myself who is in the beginner stage of this process. I am a Police Officer. So I can't commit all my time to education. Did you do a lot of studying for all of your certs and Degrees?
