Rewarewa helps you heal cuts...
.
As a bushman it’s always really comforting to know what plants are handy if things go wrong.
.
Many people use hypercal cream or other healing balms derived from plants.
.
Many of the plants used in alternative medicine are Eurocentric and being from Europe they are difficult to find in the scrub.
.
Rewarewa is our native cut healing tree. The inner bark can be scraped off and bound over a cut or wound as a poultice.
.
Elements in the barks cambium heals wounds heal and also fights infection. It’s always our top honey producers that play this role. I’m not sure what that’s about.
.
Rewarewa is a tall straight tree and can be easily identified by its leaves and flowers.
.
It’s leaves are long and narrow. They have a serrated outer edge and look similar to the adult lance wood. However there is usually a wave or rifle running through the texture of the leaf, similar to Tawa.
.
The flowers have a structure like no other I have seen. A beautiful bundle of red curls. .
When I’m in the bush I feel secure in knowing if I cut myself badly. As long as I can find Rewarewa I’ll be ok. The bush will provide.
