We were, not that long ago, referred to as: "CUSTOMERS", as in "The customer is always right", or "Our valued customers", or Customer satisfaction, guaranteed!".

Lately, we're being more and more referred to as: "CONSUMERS", as in "Consumer demand" or "Useless eaters".

Back in the 90s going to automotive tech school, we learned that cars could last much longer, but failures were engineered into the parts to guarantee future profits for corporations.

I live in a Victorian home that's about a hundred yrs old in Mass, all the beautiful mahogany woodwork still intact, steam radiators are ornate, the wood beams in the basement are huge and feel like cast iron. The amount of detail and craftsmanship it took to build it blows my mind and it's something very few if any have those skills today

I describe almost everything sold today as dollar store quality, but sold for a premium. These corporations talk about sustainability, yet produce unsustainable products using unsustainable methods and blame it on the consumer. It’s like we’re all in a narcissistic relationship and being gaslit at every turn. Some of us want out and recognize the abuse, but are constantly told we’re crazy or it’s in our heads despite the evidence right in front of everyone’s face.

When I was a kid, you could expect to move out before your parents got a new fridge—it was part of the house, like a wall. I grew up in a house we moved to when I was 3. I moved out when I was 18 and same fridge, same A/C, same water heater, same washer and dryer were there my whole life. These weren’t things that broke that often and if something did go out, it was a fuse or a cheap consumer replaceable part. Now kids think it’s normal to get all new appliances 3 or 4 times before they grow up and move out. My parents’ generation built things to last 50 years. My generation settled for 20. Today, 5 years is good!

The original Singer treadle sewing machines were so completely indestructible, that Singer began destroying them to create scarcity. So I found one, tuned it up, and use one myself!

You can’t even find skilled quality tradesman that can do the work anymore

I noticed this since I was a child. I wanted to be an 'inventor' and would constantly notice flaws in everything and eventually came to realize that those flaws were on purpose. Everything. down to the flimsy plastic shovel, your shoes that would unstick and even a pencil does not have to be the way it is. But because 'money', it just is. Also realized that everyone is brainwashed. The world does not need money to run. The very thought of no money is inconceivable to most and some folks even get offended by that very thought, which has always intrigued me.

I have a light bulb in my home that has been burning bright since 2003. It is the only light bulb in the house I have not changed out, not to mention the countless lights I've replaced many times over. It been my little phenomenon since we've lived here. This is a fantastic video, and much appreciated.

Ppl laugh at my husband and I for wanting to buy older things. Older vehicles, tools, furniture... all better made and easier to fix, plus cheaper. We prefer auctions to retail, yard sales to walmart and so forth. We are living in a microwave generation and I'd rather a wood stove. 😊

I keep telling people if you buy a home look for an older home. I have been in the construction industry, and they replaced quality for quick profit and the new homes are not worth the prices put on them today.

The problem is if you rent something long enough, you pay more than the original product.

My ex worked at Electrolux laundry division doing what was called life testing. I was always under the impression that they were testing the machines to make them last longer...I was shocked when she laughed and said um no...its was to find ways to have them fail at a certain point (7years) so the buying cycle would continue...were living in a different world my friends.

honestly the only way to fight this is by small businesses taking over again.
