Fountainhead Montessori School: Walk Around the Sun (Birthday Celebration)

Birthdays are special occurrences for children, and we celebrate each child's birthday with the "Walk Around the Sun" tradition. By having the child physically walk around the model of the sun, it helps concretize the idea that a year is one rotation of the earth around the sun. Children start to understand the solar system, and at the same time, correlate this to their own experiences with seasons and birthdays. This is a great example of how the Montessori Method allows for many teaching moments in a fun and interactive manner.
