An amateur drone enthusiast captured dramatic footage of a group of false killer whales -- yes, that's a thing -- chasing a shark. Filming such an encounter is rare and is very exciting for marine biologists and for fans in the false killer whale community.

Jimmy Dore breaks it down.

Sharks do not exercise parental care, Jimmy.

Baby sharks don't grow up with their parents, its not like mammals where they need the parents milk, they hatch and then that's it. they're on their own.

Jimmy sharks don't raise their young so the young shark didn't get separated from its mother.

Jimmie, I've been robbed... I've been robbed of the opportunity to learn about false killer whales until the moment you enlightened me with your story packed with humor, compassion and solid critique of dishonest mammals of the seas.

When I worked on snorkel tours in Hawaii I swam with thousands of False Killer Whales in the channel between Kauai and Ni'ihau. They were very mellow most times, but the last time I ever swam with them the females were giving birth and the males all attacked me, or at least threatened me real good! I made the mistake of swimming down about 40ft. and trying to watch the mothers give birth, and that was apparently a no-no. They immediately circled around the mothers to protect them and sent out the males to charge right at me and veer off just inches away from me spinning me around like a top. Then as I scuttled backwards to the boat, some of the whales came up and chomped their teeth at me...scary stuff. These are about 8-10 feet long and have a rounded head and large conical tusks about 2 inches long, LOL!

Sharks lay egg/bags with there young in them. They take the abandonment parenting approach.

So many inaccurate information...

- sharks do not provide parental care, though siblings will stick together

If a false killer whale offers you a fish you take it, eat it with a smile then thank the nice fishy for not eating you as you slowly swim backwards towords your boat.

Jimmy--this is one of my favorite videos of yours. With such a huge audience, you taught your fans some natural history. I was reading about this very species a few years back and came upon that observation--that they sometimes offer fish to humans. What Jimmy didn't say was that this is how they share food between themselves, but to be offering food to an individual of another species is very odd in the animal kingdom. Maybe they have received fish from humans in the past and it's a reciprocal altruism thing. You would only expect to see such a thing from a very highly social mammal with excellent memory and self- and other-awareness. Not surprising that it is a dolphin. Killer whales are fascinating too.

Never knew that was their actual name..."hey guys whats this one? Idk but its definitely not a killer whale"

most dolphins are both very social and curious. the reason these kinds in particular are more well known for their friendly gestures is that they seem to have an even higher confidence and will approach humans that they have never seen before. most dolphins will make similar friendly gestures towards humans that they are comfortable around.

Researchers have found that dolphins (and yes, Orca ARE dolphins) kill sharks as a survival strategy to ward off other sharks in the area... It turns out the sharks run from the scent of shark liver.

1. Cetacean is the group that includes whales and dolphins.

2. regular killer whales are also dolphins.

3. the shark was described as juvenile. Sharks do not rear their young.

4. He has to ask if a cetacean is a mammal? Is Jimmy a creationist?

i't healthy to remind yourself from time to time that wild animals don't give a fuck about us.

The real world is a harsh place...and the science teacher in me was excited enough about this video to rewatch it.

The utter lack of empathy with the whale in the reporting puzzles me.

Yes, false killer whales are more black than orcas and slightly smaller with lower dorsals. We had some come here into Santa Monica Bay by Redondo last weekend attack a gray whale. I've been meaning to upload the videos. It was right at the shoreline and a young whale. Very sad. All cetacea are very closely related to canines, so that act similarly to dogs and wolves (including curiosity and deference toward humans - hence the approachability with fish) as well as hierarchical pods and group hunting tactics.

My first thought too was, poor shark, those damn whales are bullying him! But then also I sympathize with the whales as the term "false killer whale" clearly implicates some negative bias towards them, I bet they call themselves differently, but as usual this is not been respected. And what about the drones? Can some fish or ocean-dwelling mammals not go about their own private business without constant surveillance and what's even worse, those "biologists" don't know any better than snitching on them and report every little incident to National Geographic.
Nobody seems to have any respect about anything nowadays, it's just sickening, Goddammit!
