“We’re kinda in this doom loop where the border is the symbol of everything, but obviously, in a kind of commonsensical way, the only way to approach this broader problem is to deal with every aspect of the system.” Jonathan Blitzer, New Yorker staff writer and author of “Everyone Who Is Gone Is Here,” discusses with Jon Stewart the political dynamics at play that are preventing comprehensive immigration reform from getting passed in the U.S. #DailyShow #JonStewart #JonathanBlitzer

I grew up conservative and watched Jon when I was a 19 year old. I loved his humor although I critiqued his politics. Now I’m embarrassed at the idiots I helped elect. At 42, I’m once again watching Jon but with new eyes. I now see what I missed.

I can’t believe how relieved I am to have Jon Stewart back.

You'd think that saying the quiet part out loud (rejecting the bipartisan legislation _just_ to make it campaign issue) to their base would be detrimental to them. But you'd be wrong.

This country's immigration system is so broken theres years and years worth of backlogs for people who try to immigate the legal way as well. It is so wild to see peoples lives be used as a bargaining chip in elections.

Video editors: Can you turn down the volume of the final music after the show ends? I have my speakers kind of high to hear, and then the music blasts and it's almost painful. This isn't just for Jon Stewart's time on the Daily Show, it's all of the Daily Show YouTube clips that end with the music.

It's deeply frustrating that it isn't more strategically useful to solve the problem and claim credit for it for decades, rather than milking a problem without taking action for decades.

More commonsensical and helpful speakers like this on the Daily Show please. Educate us!

Jonathan Blitzer has summarized the real issues better than anyone I've heard in decades (I'm an immigration lawyer, so I listen to lots of folks on every side). Many refugees would stay in 3rd countries if those countries would let them apply for asylum there. We've persuaded Mexico to do a bit of this. We need to do it for many more countries.

The one person we should listen to: the person who says to fact check them. That's honesty.

I loved Trevor but I missed Jon so much and I’m glad he’s back for a little while on a part time basis

All of this is terribly interesting, thoughtful and well-articulated, and yet all I can think is: "Boy, that guy has a fantastic voice. He should definitely record his own audiobook."

Excellent interview and conversation Jon. They had a bipartisan bill ready go to President Biden, but the GOP’s lord and master demanded they hold it for HIM

I can't believe people didn't pick up on the subtle joke at 3:30. The fact that the immigration crisis is the consequence of US destabilizing central American countries throughout history is very rarely mentioned during this whole debate.

The US spent 20 years focused on the Middle East. In the meantime Latin America has had 20 years of authoritarian regimes.

If you want to reduce immigration, be a better neighbour.

I would love to see Jon do an extended interview of Jonathan Blitzer.

Sadly Jonathan Blitzer was cut off while he was talking about the fundamentals of migration: How many people come into the country, how many leave the country and what a thriving economy needs to stay thriving. Or at least not collapse under the weight of the sick and the old.

Great humorous start to a "book interview" - and followed by a serious interview on a complex subject.

Exactly true about foreign policy. If they could live at home the vast majority of asylum seekers would stay home. That’s natural human nature.
