Gooood information. I'm curious - As we display sound in a transverse wave, sound does technically travel as longitudinal waves...which look very different than a transverse wave. It's easy to explain polarity and phase with the transverse wave as you just did, but what would it look like as a longitudinal wave?

You are confusing time delay with Phasor phase. A polarity flip is exactly the same as changing the phase 180 degrees at all frequencies. You are looking at a time delay which is equivalent to a linear phase, so a different phase for each frequency. So when you say that others get it wrong, you are actually the one in the wrong. It is clear when you look at the math.
