Bloxorz is a popular logic puzzle game that where you roll a 2x1x1 rectangular prism across a board and have it fall down a 1x1 hole on the other side. As the game progresses, it introduces new mechanics such as switch-activated platforms and teleporters that split your prism into 1x1x1 cubes that can roll separately and join back together later. It has since received an official port to HTML5 and unofficial ports to iOS and Android.

For every movement made here to be absolutely necessary is insane to me.

The people who can beat the game are big brain, but the dev who actually had to make and cheese-proof the levels is absolutely galaxy brain.

That's right, it goes in the square hole

The sound design of the block moving is incredible.

Woah this game has a lot of levels, at school I feel like we maybe only got to the first couple of splitting levels and I remember level 7 being tough at the time

could never get too far in this. there's something atmospheric about the fact that you're basically a giant prism rolling about in the middle of a giant skybox

When i was a child, this game always made me vibrate out of fear because of how scary the atmosphere and graphic is, combined with the sounds. Truly an immensly good horror feeling

a TAS of this game really amplifies just how well the game was made for its time:
levels don't include useless space,
puzzles have to be solved in the intended way,
Visual and sound design reinforce each other
and give the game that unsettling, but not threatening, feeling.

This game is spookier than it has any right to be

This game's visuals always struck me as strange. For a puzzle game about blocks, the rusty texture on the player character and the dark red skybox mixed with the empty, sterile, and narrow levels always kinda creeped me out. It sort of reminds me of Portal.

Edit: I forgot to mention the ambient noise, which is probably the biggest factor in this game's unsettling atmosphere.

I didn't notice it when I was younger but the sound of the block moving is very nice.

I never really appreciated how visually distinct this game was compared to other Flash games back in the day.

I think the pre-rendered 3D is what drew the attention of kids in the computer labs back then.

Played this all the time in middle school.
Never did get past stage 5

Definitely one of the best classics. Some levels depend on activating a button to get +1 block of space and boom, it's possible now. No skips, no nothing. Just imagine how much the creator had to playtest this game to make sure everything played according to plan.

Oh my god that miniclip splash screen is maybe the heaviest nostalgia I’ve felt in a long long time. That was my childhood

This is one of those weird youtube recommendations that triggers that heavy, deep-seated nostalgia that I'm sure we're all familiar with at this point

Looking back, why was the atmospheric design so hostile for such a chill game? The red skybox, the ceramic sounds, the clanging metal, the black-red coloring of the block, and the foreboding background music are all design choices more evocative of a horror title like Silent Hill, than a normal puzzle game.

this game legitimately feels post-apocalyptic

I havent seen this game in such a long time I'm amazed my brain even retained the memory of it at all. Kinda crazy.
