Your first Steps you take towards Pain Free Knees are the Steps you take Backwards🙃

There‘s a few reasons for that:

1️⃣The first one being that by walking backwards there's less impact on your knee as on each step you effectively absorb the forces with your toes, through your ankle up to your knee!

2️⃣The second reason is that it is really effective in activating and engaging the quad muscles. This is crucial because often people with knee pain have a quad that s not engaging properly when they walk forwards, once they walk backwards tho, the quad engages and gets strengthened, which is also shown to reduce knee pain. Especially the VMO that often lacks strength in people with knee pain, will engage and regain it's function by walking backwards!

3️⃣The third reason is that by walking backwards with resistance you can really begin to strengthen your lower body in a gentle and healing way for your knee. By working against the resistance and pushing through your toes, you strengthen your feet, ankles, lower legs, knees and quads. On every step you're also getting stronger in that knee over toes position, which will play a big role to bulletproof your knees

4️⃣Last reason is that because of the low impact, but high muscle activity, you can generate great bloodflow to your knee joint without causing damage to the internal tissues. And blood is literally, what brings all the nutrients to heal a certain area.
Especially in connective tissues like your tendons or ligaments where blood supply is much lower than in muscles, this can make a huge difference to the healing process and recovery speed📈❤️‍🩹

If you don't have access to a treadmill, you can walk backwards with a sled, or walk uphill backwards.
