Does the new Windows 10 Ultra Performance Mode make any difference in game fps? This video shows GTA V benchmark performance in the three different Windows power options: Balanced vs High vs Ultimate performance mode.

FPS testing done with Fraps, the PC was restarted after each testing and with only Fraps running in the background.

If you want to get the Ultimate performance mode in the power settings your PC must run the Windows 10 Enterprise version with the 2018 April update. But if you don't have the Enterprise version follow some tutorial on how to enable it.

guys its not about the fps, its about NOT having fps spikes and drops HIGH and Ultra makes sure u dont have them unlike balanced which u can notice major fps spikes and drops

This works. I was having lag spikes in Street Fighter 5 and after using ultimate power mode my pc ran the game way better.

This is the frame I was looking for! I need to go from min 59fps to min 60fps...

In my personal experience, I didn't notice any change on my fps, maybe some shuttering become less frequent or even stopping from happening, but at cost of my CPU (and maybe GPU) being at high clocks and consuming more power, so I decided to use de balanced since I barely play something that will dry all the power of my hardware, my wallet will thanks!

But if you are curious, you can see the advanced options in each power plan and find something like "CPU power management", that may help you understanding what power plan do, and tweaking it if you wish.

Gaming isn’t exactly the best way to show this off, especially in games that rely heavily on a powerful GPU. However in a CPU-bound test, like Cinebench, the difference is more noticeable.

For anyone that is watching this randomly that has overheating CPU issues with a stock cooler or AIO. Please be advised that this setting does mess with your temps. On my system it wasn't allowing the CPU to lower its speed and was causing my AIO to sound like a 747 taking off all the time. TLDR: Just keep it on Balanced.

Why were the side by side numbers at the end different from the original ones?

i expected ultra mode will give him 200+ fps

I don't know what to use
but I think that Balanced is good because it is the same, but it reduces the CPU usage
when using Google chrome for example or some light application and its better for me.

For everyone thinking this power plan helps FPS, it doesn’t. Instead it decreases input lag by removing certain processes

Input lag is definitely less when I use ultimate performance

Extremely poor comparison, no listing of system specs and didn't test cpu and gpu bound performance separately.

You should try this on a laptop. This mode is probably useful for them.

Just found my PC has been on power saving this whole time. It made a pretty big difference swapping to Ultra.

I just heard about this feature and of coarse got excited at the prospect of any type of advantage on the battlefield. After seeing your results it hardly seems worth the effort, I think I'll just leave things as they are.

Ultimate performance plan makes games run much smooter because the processor is running at max speed all the time while with balanced mode the processor speed varies sometimes it slows down when it is not necesarry to run at full capacity

high and ultimate dont matter
balanced will adjust the speed etc automatically when you run games, and will reduce it when you're only using some apps

I think Ultimate Performance Mode is more for harder to run games that struggle, stutter or drop FPS. I’ve really noticed differences in FFXV and the newer Assassins Creed titles, only time I use it

my balanced power plan is better than high performence
