U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris and New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have condemned comments made by a comedian at a New York City rally for former president Donald Trump on Sunday.
While attempting to warm up the crowd before Trump took the stage, American comedian Tony Hinchcliffe disparaged Latinos and Puerto Ricans after calling the U.S. state a “floating island of garbage.”
"I need people to understand that when you have some a-hole calling Puerto Rico floating garbage and know that that's what they think about you,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a web conference with Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz.
Speaking to reporters in Maryland, Harris called the comments “nonsense,” before reiterating her dedication to serving the people of Puerto Rico.
The Trump campaign said Hinchcliffe’s comments do not "reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign,” though Trump himself has not addressed on the remarks.
