A year ago when this was performed at the Troubadour (God I hope these venues can survive!), you could go to any big name country show at Staples or the H'wood Bowl and not hear anything better than this band - Gone West is musically and vocally superb. But it's the songwriting that stands out. So many artists in the country genre (and it's 300+ sub-genres) don't know how to write a decent song anymore. The Gone West album is loaded with beautiful songs with sly hooks and simple, memorable melodies. The first time I heard this song, the opening didn't catch; I was thinking this was just another country ballad. Then the chorus hit. Then my divorce years ago came to mind. The lyrics merged with reality and I was immersed in the song, the dreamy harmonies and such a easy flow about it. Instantly, yesterday, I became a big fan. I hope live music returns soon. I wish you all the best in this wacky music business.
