WHO WE ARE
In 2015 we quit our lives in the city to buy bare land in the country and build a timber frame home from scratch with our bare hands, debt-free, with no prior experience. It’s been a wild ride of ups, downs, highs, lows, rain and rainbows, but we haven’t lost sight of our goals and have gotten further in three years than we thought we’d get in ten. Join us as we build our house, develop our rural property, practice traditional skills such as gardening and food preservation and go to even greater heights (literally) of exploring the world through aviation as a new private pilot!

I have not tried with Romex, but I pull a LOT of CAT5 for work; try staggering the ends of the wire every few inches, then tape it together. That way, the bundle tappers and will go through the chase easier.

This is excessive compulsive .. if you just ran EMT conduit surface mounted you fix the snaking problem and keep the insulation untouched.

Nice to hear the little one in the background. I trust the little one is doing well and giving you much pleasure!

When you pull large amounts of wire, do not have all the ends be at the same spot, but stager them down the longest run by a few inches, like a ramp. That way you are not pulling a giant blob through, but a wedge that will slide through.

Why not go for some stylish conduit and have everything surface mounted. Easier to install and repair, and saves you knocking ever more holes in your walls and insulation, and compromising your insulation standards. You can get really nice quality conduit and make it a feature, and save yourselves lots of effort.

You guys are getting behind on video dates further and further. Feel free to skip some days so we can catch up on what's current. A snow storm passed already and it's still summer in your videos lol.

Based on the stuff we use here in Europe and the switches / outlets ecc. you can buy here it seems that you are still in the 1800's :-) we use flexible single wires in pvc or metal conduits which are placed at building time or later in masonry making a trace with a special tool. At any time you can change configuration of your installation adding or changing single or multiple wires only by opening the light points / outlets or switches. I admire you persistence even if the project is proceeding at pilgrim steps :-) ( just thinking out loud )

You guys are killing me with the estranged videos of not showing that wonderful whole family you now have. ;)

24:30 - why on earth would you try pulling such a huge bundle of wires through all at once? And why did you tape it at multiple places, making it only more difficult to bend it?
Just pull one romex at a time, while making sure to also pull a replacement string.

Looks like a tip for other people building with SIPs would be to pass a pipe or conduit through the electrical chases before installing them. You guys are doing an awesome job passing along the knowledge of your experiences, thank you.

I use flexible drill bits to drill holes through internal lumber. They come in lengths up to 3ft, and don’t forget to purchase the guide tool to aim the tip. This way you can enter from a small hole and drill sideways or up or down within a wall.

I read on a SIP forum that people use heated ball bearings to clear their vertical chases.

I always enjoy your videos but my take away from this. Is to build a stick frame home and do a spray foam after all my wires are ran.

Conduit, conduit, conduit, CONDUIT! It is your best friend.

stagger the lines when you run a bunch like that. it makes it easier to have a sort of taper to them. one in first, then 2 attached with a third behind it attached to the two, etc.

Seriously, 1" firing strips over the top of the SIPs and hang the drywall off the firing strips.

Remember when you foamed the 2X’s into the SIP. It found the path of least resistance into your wire chase.
