In this video I rough turned a log into a bowl on the lathe, and packed in in the shaving to dry. It will take a few months for the bowl to dry, and ready to finish.

It's always a treat to watch you work Carl! I haven't turned much for around a year now due to some health problems
but always love watching your videos.
Take care my friend,
Tim

Excellent video Carl, great explanation of the process to dry wet turned bowls, especially the bit about moving the bowl around in the shavings on a regular basis. the first few I did this way, and left them alone for three or four months, went mouldy and stank!
Take care
Mike

Very nice Carl-lots of good information. Must be nice to do turning in slippers and a t-shirt this time of year. I find my self dressing in multiple layers in about a 15 degree shop before the fire gets going.

Many thanks Carl for this video which is very timely for me as about 10 days ago a friend contacted to say a eucalyptus tree had blown down in his garden.   He offered it to me as otherwise it was destined for firewood.   I went along in a flash to find a mature tree, about 100 years old I reckon, lying on the ground.
The trunk was too big to deal with so I took some branches about 9 inches in diameter.
I have it cut into logs now and sealed with wax but it will take a couple of years for it to dry.
However, I cut some pieces into manageable sizes with the intention of making some bowl blanks but already it is starting to crack from the pith outwards so tomorrow I'm going to follow your procedure and set them in a cool place in the hope I can use them within months.
Best wishes,
Alan.

I like the thought of removing the heart of the wood first - I leave all of my blocks in the workshop in the UK its cold.... but I might start removing the heart to slow the cracking down a bit! - good idea Carl!

I am saving the money I get from using your tips (like latex paint and mineral oil for tool protection) towards the purchase of a decent bandsaw. I was looking at a 14" Jet but not sure it would handle the size wood like you are using in this video. Really liked that bowl sizing jig at the start of this video. Definitely on my "To Make" list.
And as always Thank You for the Super Great job of putting your words into language I can understand!

I noticed what a mess of shavings you had all over when you finished turning the Waldt would never make such a mess, his workshop is spotless at all times !!! lol
